Just received this book in the post. A great reference guide as the number of photos on the WWW are far and few beyond. I think in all my years of searching I have copies of all Web photos.
Would recommend this book series to any avid modeller.

Yes, I had a look at one at a model show recently and thought it looked well worth the price.

Well I have now completed painting the main deck. I also have coated all parts made to date with a Clear satin sealer to make them easier to dust when the time comes. Looks good. Put on a bit heavy in few places but over time the slight gloss will fade and get dusty so not too concerned.
Also have fitted 246 port holes to the hull. Used John Haynes and removed the brow so just had a round ring. I know should be flush with hull surface but I put like this on my Belfast and once painted look OK.  Was easier than trying to drill sand fill or paint them on. In all took about 3 hours.
Next step is to attach the superstructure base to the deck and start fitting it out from bottom layer to top layer. Will post progress of this as I go.

I salute your efforts in chopping and sanding all those rigols off! Your hull looks excellent.

Since I started this build I have moved house 3 times.
Final place is the old double garage under the house.
Had to build entrance foyer and that left a singe space for a car. I put in a glass sliding door. Built the cupboards and a work bench down the sides. There is as you can see also storage under my work table. In all pretty good.

It is Ok. I separated a few years ago. My workshop is at her place as she is in my old house. I get to be there a few days a week when child minding so best both worlds. Can work on my ships many house at a time and not get nagged as being selfish and not attending to her needs. Then once she is home from work I leave to my house.

You know a model is big when you mistake the pin vice for part of the superstructure!

I am glad to see you back and I love the camo scheme. She model is becoming very attractive.

Update. Not much happening. Just dropped her off to my friend to install all the running gear and radio control battery systems. At least progress is going forward. Will post photos as he supplies them to me.

Well I should give my friend the entire model to make. He has had hull for a week now. Has fitted the rudder and all four shafts and props. Now only the RC gear to install once I get  it to him. Some photos to follow.

Hello Kiwi,
beautiful work of a beautiful ship! Richelieu will be sailing the southern seas once again, yeah!  :-))
I'm not sure where you got your plans from, but, regarding litterature, René Sarnet Book is a must as well as Robert Dumas:
ISBN 2-909675-75-0
ISBN 2-909675-32-7
Both out of prints, but sometimes available on EBay. They comprise hundreds of pictures of the actual ship. %%
If you had these references, and if you are open to a bit of positive criticism, the paint job on starboard is not correct:

Also, the ship was painted with spray guns.
Anyhow, I fancy myself as a bit of a buff on 1943's (October especially) Richelieu, so, if you need any data, any photos, please ask.
Also, do not forget to get yourself the Richelieu afficionado's collection of sailor's badges!

Ignore the 20mm shell, that's German (You know them: they always pop in when you least expect them... >>:-()
or an original "Bachi":

Cheers,

Serge

Well, not really. The funny thing about this cadet is that he tends to assume control of the ship as soon as it's in the water.

cheers

Sorry Kiwi96! I got very confused.

It is a joy to have two models of the same battleship being worked on at the same time.

Hello Kiwi,
I'd like to further illustrate the camouflage details of a 1943 Richelieu. Basically, as she got out of Brooklyn shipyard for sea trials in chesapeake Bay, she was painted using USN "Measure 32" paints and paint scheme. this same scheme you can find on US battleships:

The palette is here:

and Measure 32 uses:
•5-L light Gray (side & superstructure)
•5-O Ocean Gray (side & superstructure)
•20-B 1942 revised Deck Blue (all horizontal surfaces)

To get back to the "Rich" (as we call it in France) here is a photo taken in October 1943 in Chesapeake Bay of the port side in color:

somemore in B&W:

Notice the paint scheme of the gun barrels:

Again, since we are doing the same version, don't hesitate to ask. I am not sure if you want an historically accurate model, but there are différences between superstructures on a monthly basis... Sailors were busy with the welding torch.
As soon as she reached Ceylon as part of Royal Navy's East Indian Fleet, the paint scheme gets very murky as some US paint was mixed with some RN paint. But generally, she bore something like RN camouflage.

Cheers

Serge
