1/35 vosper from Italeri?
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:09:52 pm »

Now dont hang me on this one, but I saw somewhere on the net that there is a 1/35 Vosper in the pipe-line from Italeri to add to their line up of MTB's in their hi res models.
Has any one else heard this, or is it just wishfull thinking on my part?

When I met one of the Italeri designers at the US IPMS Nats in Anaheim last year, I suggested a Fairmile D, but he didn't commit to anything!

Colin, the Box states The worlds biggest 1/35 scale plastic model, but you're right, Bismark is bigger, so is the big German gun, can't remember the name of it though.

Was told by Italeri's sales manager that a PT-109 will be next based on the existing Elco kit.  I recommended they consider a mid S-boot since the tooling requirements would minimal & similar to their plans with the PT.   It certainly would make sense to expand the series with an early Vosper MTB.  Cross your fingers that they meet their sales projections with the new S100.  :-))

Regarding bragging rights about who's is longest...  :embarrassed:

G2B's (Soar Art) pending Bismarck, at 1/144 scale, will be the largest plastic ship model at 175cm (69") long.  Rumors are they will follow with a plastic 1/144 Yamato, Shinano & Akagi but I'll believe that when I see it (Soar Art currently offers these as $$$ resin display models).  G2B will have to sell quite a few kits to pay for that tooling investment.

Revell's 1/72 Gato at 52" currently holds the title after dethroning Nichimo's 51" 1/200 Yamato. As you can see below, Lindberg's new I-20 & I-53 subs will dwarf the Gato at 58" & 59" long.

Hi Chuck
Not a good way to judge length of a model.

Beware of Mr. Ark Models scouring the back streets of Gungdong looking for chinese midgets to model his subs. ;) :o

ROLF!!   :o  Yea I know that guy is probably one of the shortest on their staff.

I would have used something more concrete but fear the model would have been hard to discern in the shadows...

I'd certainly buy a Vosper (and/or a Fairmile) in 1/35! Still haven't bought either the Elco or S-100 though I'm considering the latter as the basis for my first R/C warship model with decent-quality radio + motors; if I do, I'll probably cheat and use a single- or twin-prop setup with single rudder, rather than 3 of each as on the real thing - it won't be visible when running anyway.

A PT-109-type early-war Elco 80' is good news, I always wondered why Italeri didn't do this as the first version of their 1/35 Elco kit, perhaps they thought people who already have a Lindberg 1/32 PT-109 would be put off (though the latter kit is VERY crude and inaccurate)

Ages ago I bought a 1/35 Vosper hull with the intention of scratchbuilding a (static) Vosper 73' MTB; I've never got beyond marking out the deck, but I may finally start work on it next year; if I do, this'll surely guarantee Italeri will produce a kit {-)

@colin d
Is this the one? http://balticunicom.trustpass.alibaba.com/product/100467027/Assembly_Kit_Scale_1_100_Model_Ship_Bismarck_1939_German_Navy_Kriegsmarine.html

Looks like there are quite a few others too!!!

I think the plastic Bismarck is in 1/144 scale, and produced by "Soar Art", the same company which made the 1/35 Dora gun.
