Deans Kestral Motors
« on: December 22, 2008, 09:56:02 pm »

Some advice please. I recently bought a couple of Deans Kestral motors on Ebay. They are, I believe brand new.
Could someone please advise if one of these would be O.K. powering a 55mm prop. in a steerable Kort ( running on 6Volts). The boat in question is a small tug based on a MMM Nangee hull.
Best Wishes to you all for a Happy Christmas
Douglas

westcoaster,
Here is the spec taken from the Deans website.

Kestral
[163] £11.26
High torque medium, speed motor with a low current consumption. Best use in fast, light, planing models such as M.G.B.s etc. Can be fitted to an Olympus belt drive for large heavy models such as Liberty ships, and Battleships.

Power range 4.8 to 12 volts

Spec. 5 pole.

It is suggested they are geared to drive larger props.

westcoaster,
They are popular hulls, why not just ask who has your set up what it is powered by and is it OK?

Or look on the Model Slipway site they use 50mm Korts and have recommended motors for them.
The Envoy has a 70 mm non Kort prop but the same geared motors are recommended.

Westcoaster I have Kestral motors in my PT15 and my US gunboat running on 35mm props and 9.6V batteries and they are excellent motors.

Deans spec is next to photos of motors.

Richard,
Thanks for your reply. I've now tried a temporary installation of a kestral (should it not be kestrel ?) motor in my Nangee hull and it seems quite happy driving the 55mm prop.
Best wishes to you and yours

Deans spell it Kestral, and as its a name for their product, they get first choice on spelling, so I would stick with that.
