Hi,,,,,,,,,It Dont have to cost alot to be fun to play with,Steam ?,,,,,,and can easy be made to work with  a small rc,,,,,,,,,,,and so it can allso have a long working time.i did the boiler and the small enginen,,,and the wood rowboat,i did age it a littel..run on rasp oile

What a lovely little model Bernard.  What is the propulsion system?  How big is it and where on earth did you fit the electronics bits in?

i have not yet made the rc,,,,it will be under the seat ,,just to the rudder.......i think from one of the small toy car or so..................i did use the smallest of them,in the photo

Hi...Thanks,,,,,,,,there is many parts you can use from dollhouse garage,,..,actionman to  1/6 size,,,and with a small lathe..you can reale do a lot to........here are some links..

Hi,

A very good link- the only problem being that the repeated boiling and cooling down of the 'motor' coil could result in fracture from a) The soft soldered joints or b) unlikely, but K&N metals are SO thin that it could also fracture.

Best workmanship would be to get a 4" X 2" X 1/6" peice of brass- available in K&N metals selection- make the hull the same shape but first silver solder a continuous length of copper pipe no more that 5/32" OD through the bottom of the hull with a coil as shown, first cutting the brass section to your required shape- when this job is done you can soft solder some tinplate sections to the top of the brass section to make the hull sides.

POP-POP boats work, for those that don't know, in quite a fascinating way- the candle first of all boils the water in the coil- this flashes to steam and pushes the water out at quite high velocity, but on reaching the bottom of the boat it condenses bacjk to water very quickly- creating a decent enough vacuum to pull water back into the coil- where it boils again and the process keeps on going as long as the candle burns- some POP-POP boats use a diphragm instead of a coil that 'breathes' with the flash and 'sucks' with the vacuum thereby increasing the effect- and these type make a FANTASTIC noise- kind of like a 1920's IC engine but without the smoke- everyone should have a POP-POP boat!!!!

That boiler is wonderful- you know with not having a proper firebox you could rig up some sort of smoke generator in the boiler too to make it look extra genuine...
