Geared MFA motors
« on: October 11, 2006, 05:51:58 pm »

I'm just about to fit an MFA Torpedo 500 to my Model Slipway Maggie M kit. It's the 6v 2.5/1 geared version as recommended by Model Slipway. I seem to remember seeing a post on here concerning the re-fitting of the gearbox on the end of the motor so that the shaft exits at the top of the casing rather than the bottom. If I could do this the motor won't need packed up nearly as high. Is my recollection correct ? Can it be done ? Grateful to hear from anyone who knows about this.
Best wishes

Hi Douglas,

I have used the same motors on my Aziz - having stripped the gearboxes to rotate them through 90 degrees, I have found it is a pretty simple mod. To change the shaft exit point to the top should be pretty simple - like what I did though you don't need to redrill the mounting. Look at the build manual on my blog to see how I did it.
