what motor and accessories for Perkasa
« on: June 08, 2009, 07:23:56 pm »

Hi all, just returning to model boating after a 30 year break and i`m going to build a 49" grp hulled Precedent Perkasa. Any idea of what size electric motor, propshaft, prop and rudder I would need for this model and how would I route the receiver aerial in the hull. Many thanks Pete

The motor you want is a MMB 900, When Stavros sees this he'll give you the details.

Right then shopping list as follows

1or 2 Motors from MMB Address in traders section.................http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=16941.0
ESC off Action one or 2 depending on how many Motors.......http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=15698.0
Action P99 so you can use a 6v receiver pack....YOU need this to regulate the voltage to the speed controller otherwise hasta la vista you esc  talk to FLJ
55mm 2 or 3 blade props
2x12v 4300NIMH batt packs giving 24v/Motor.
Thats what you need to get her to do what mine does.

Mine has a single MMB motor in her and planes like a good un with a run time of 55mins YES you did read right simply because the motor only draws 1.35AMPS on that combination.Yes the set up is expensive but do you want it to plane.I tried various motors at different voltages before getting this one and it is the only one that does what it does, proof of the pudding is the Pictures.Have a look at the Video taken at LLanberis lake on MMB's site That tells a story I think.

Hi, Here is the link to the video of Stavs boat running.

Mark.

I forgot to mention this.... On 24 volts the motor(s) WILL need to be water cooled.

Hi Pete, I have just spoken to Stav and the propshaft is a bog standard, plain bushed M5 shaft that was already installed in the model when he bought it and it uses a huco coupling.

But Mark can also supply a coupling made for the motor/propshaft.

Those MMB motors are the first I have ever seen getting a Perkassa on the plane on 1 shaft.
With 2 it should be awsome!!

Stav

hi please could someone explain how,,if this boat only draws 1.3 amps,,,that it only last 1 hour on a 4.3ah battery,,im still trying to learn about motors and amps and batterys ,,and this has mudled me up a bit bcos what i have learned this set up should give 3+ hours,,
and i know the guy will be telling the truth,,,,so it must be my maths or little know how,,?

I would assume that the current draw was measured with the boat out of the water.
Unfortunately you wont get speed and low current consumption.
Even at 4 amps for that performance the consumption is ultra low.
Fast Electrics can pull over 20 amps with no problem.

Quick bit of info, my straight runner (see pic) did a total of 2400 yds (thats about a mile and half folks) at 12 mph before the batteries started to drop off (2 x 12 v 3300 Mah)
using a standard 55mm prop (the motor is water cooled)
Hows that  :-)) :-)) :-))

The answer is yes, I've just fitted one into a 4ft scale boat running on 12 v, (lead acid type) gives it a nice speed, and its got plenty of grunt. I have seen this motor used in a tug with a large diameter and pitch prop it pulled 2 people in a row boat (myself and Stavros to be exact)   :-))

hi,thanks,,,i thaught that it was expensive for a motor but after reading about them they do seem realy good,in a different leage to normal rc motors,,,,as normal you get what you pay for,,,

did you find on 12v they draw more or less amps ,than the same set up on 24v,,,

basicly im unsure as to the current draw,,,difference between the two,,,do you think the 12v will draw a little less

he even weighed a motor for me to give me an exact weight,,,,,,,,i do realy want these motors now,,,but i think two of these would posibly at this stage be a bit to heavy,,and also i only have 1 ml clearence when fitting them,,,,but as always were theres a will theres a way,,,just a matter of working out what is best for me to do on my boat,,,one thing i do know is that my lack of boat building skills is getting very expensive now :-),,,,,

as always thanks for your help guys
