Motor help urgently needed
« on: November 01, 2006, 09:12:56 pm »

Hello everyone, in need of some help urgently.

refitting a model and in desperate need of some motorsheres the problem

i need 2 motors running 7.2 volts with a rpm around 11,000 or above, using as little amps as possible and to be small and light (not asking much ::) really)

im binning my 380 type motors as there to heavy and i keep breaking motor mounts  ::)
so all in all i need some motors smaller then 380 but run about the same  ???

im sure some of you folk will guide me in the right direction

cheers for useful link  ;D

the motors look small enough for the job but i dont think they could turn a 35mm prop at around 11,000 rpm  ???

reason for the urgent help is i need to get on the water for sunday but not having motors doesnt help lol  ::) ;D

In my experience I haven't come across any motors which would fit yor bill. 35mm is a big prop to spin at this speed, even for a Speed 400 (380). If you can't reduce the weight of the motors could you maybe use a lighter battery pack?
Simply for your information, my mini-Swordsman (20 ins) uses one Speed 400 and a 28mm brass prop running on 6 x AA Sanyo Nicads @ 800mAh. Goes like greased weasel-pooh.
PS Thanks for the link, Andy.

my boat is just under 20in long, at the moment its running 2x380 type motors that came out a fast electric hull.

i think im going to replace them with some race lightweight 400 type jobbies as i cant find some small enough motors for the job  :'(

need to buzz modelpower and get some lighter packs off them aswell at some point in the near future.

380's are the same size as a Speed 400, aren't they?  ???

Maybe you should consider going brushless if you want high torque combined with small size/weight.

Controllers won't be cheap though.

looking in the ripmax book think im going to bite the bullet and buy a pair of Groupner speed 300 motors running 29,000rpm each.

under load they should be rather quick i think ???

In that case I'd recommend either a gearbox or a bigger motor.
