Model Maker Vosper RTTL
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:59:19 pm »

I am completing a model Vosper RTTL which I started nearly fifty years ago. I still have a copy of the original plans that came with the December 1958 Model Maker. They are a bit ragged but I have replaced them with a new copy thanks to info picked up on the forum. However the plans are lacking in certain areas and over the years I have lost my copy of the magazine and its related article which complememted. I have managed to pick up some great photos from the forum but would appreciate if anybody could help in regard to a copy of the original article.

Is this what you are looking for? these were sent to me by a memeber of the forum a couple of years ago. If you want copies I can email them.

Hello howyson I am gathering info to build a 1:18  45inch RTTL and have collected quite a bit of useful info and have a 1:32 plan by Vic Smeed which may be helpful.  :-)

I'm new to this game, but I'm currently in negotiation to buy a built version of one of these boats, but I would appreciate a copy of that issue too,as the detail on the model I'm trying to get is a little on the basic side. :-))
I'm really quite lucky with where I live,as I have two model boat clubs within 3 miles of where I stay;Elder Park model boat club & Queens Park model boat club, both in Glasgow. I'll pm you my e-mail address if that's ok.

The RTTL that I've managed to lay my grubby little hands on.This will be my renovation project for the winter,it doesn't need too much done to her,but I intent upgrading the electrics to start with.

Nice model you have there, unfortunately I have still a fair amount of building work to complete as you can see from the pictures below!

:-))The build is going well - you've made a lovely job of the hull especially the bow - not easy using thin ply sheet below the chine. Excellent. ;)

Lovely model you've got there, and a far more accurate one than mine is.Have you built the companionway for the engine room yet, that sits to the front of the deckhouse, with the access doors facing the port side? What did you make the deckhouse handrails from?

Thanks very much for the comments. I have built the companionway but it is not on the photographs because I have not fitted the decking yet. The handrails I cut from 1/32 ply.

Hi "Tester",

I am a boat modeller from Brazil and I am starting collect information and pics to build my vosper rttl. I got really surprised when I found this forum and "stoled" a lot of pics, including those that you have posted.

I would reaaly appreciae if you can e-mail me the plasn of the RTTL. I decided that I will construct it but itīs very difficult, for a not so experienced modeller like me, guess all the sizes and dimensions based exclusively on pics.

I found some utilities that print the image on tiling, helped a little but itīs not enough. That doesnīt have scale.

The hull  (74cm) , with motor, radio ant etc itīs almost ready, but need to know all the rest.

Thank you very much, and hope to ear from you.

Hi Jean

Only thing I can help with is the following site where you can get plans for the Vic Smeed 34" design which gives some detail but is limited.

http://www.myhobbystore.com/1983/Colyer-Vosper-Rttl-MM530.html

Whilst on the subject of detail for the vosper rttl has anybody got info on the winch located in the rear winch shelter?

Hi

Would like the thank Bluebird again for his photo of the RTTL winch. Afraid my progress is very much slower than his. Have now completed the winch and have worked on other sections as well, however have still someway to go!

Not a good photo unfortunately but the lighting was a bit dim...!  :D

Any use?

I have some others I took of the same RTTL, some are not too bad.

Howyson hi there, glad to see you are still building this - it is looking nice.  If you are stuck for details - I will have a look through some of the pics I have on CD of these craft.  Your best bet though is to contact Christian Cdsc123 on this forum because Christian has a lot of information.    If you are looking for info or photographs of the winch on the front have a look at the build which I did of the RTTL 2751 - there are some good pics on there which may be of some help to you.   KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and keep more photographs coming

Thanks very much for all the pictures and links, all very helpful and useful. However I am still having difficulty in deciphering how it functioned, does it have a hinged section, (the left hand section in the pictures seems to have multiple rungs), that rests on deck whilst the remainder goes overboard?

Thanks for the forward winch info and the Cristian conatct, Bluebird, I have finished the winch but my proportions might not be quite right. Unfortunately I cannot supply a photo as I am in Spain at present. I spend a few months of the year here which during which I cannot take any photos or make any progress on the build.

The photos are not quite up todate but will update them when I get back to the UK.
