BRUMA build completed
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:52:27 pm »

Hi everyone,
I have just completed building the Mantua kit BRUMA. She has taken me 5 months and helped me learn some of the skills of this hobby. It is my third model since I started in January. I know some forum members are also building her and no doubt several of you have done so previously. It would be good to hear from you.
I think she is a beautiful vessel and reminds me strongly of a Turkish gulet upon which I spent a most pleasant week a few years ago.
I hope you like the picture I took at Black Park (Nr Slough) yesterday on her maiden outing. I was most gratified by the many comments from both club members and the Sunday walkers.

Hi Des

I've just come across this forum - your Bruma looks superb.  I've also come across the forum on motorising the Bruma - too late for me not to have already ordered the Bruma motor kit.  However, as it is unopened, hopefully Cornwall model boats will take it back if I buy the individual motors etc. in its place.  Based on your experience, I would go for MFA 360 5-pole motors with 35mm 3 blade props.  Could you please tell me which mixer you used and how it fitted into the system?  Also, did you use the prop shafts supplied with the kit?  With the motor kit, the motor lies between the shafts.  With your set-up, they are in line and must be further forward if you have used the same shafts.  I also note that you have mounted the battery across the hull instead of lenghtwise.  Was the installation simple?  Did you encounter any problems?

I am new to the hobby having just completed one boat - a Billings Nordkap.  She has just had her maiden voyage at Black Park (see photos below).  If you are still sailing there, I would love to see your Bruma and get any tips on its construction.  I tried sending this as a private message given that your last visit to this topic was in August last year but, for some reason, it wasn't accepted.  I will try again later so you may get the same message twice.

Best regards

Jeremy

Hi Martin

You are welcome to use the photo.  It's a good thing it doesn't show up the flaws in the planking.  Maybe not too bad for a first effort but far from a quality job.  Hopefully, I can apply what I've learned to my Bruma build.  Following comments from experts at the lakeside, the Nordkap now has an additional 0.5kg or thereabouts of lead on board to bring her down to the waterline.

Regards

Jeremy
