new to static boat building

Hi there, The mrs has offered to buy me a model of the H.M.S Victory for christmas and I fancy more of a challenge than the 8 hour build airfix kits available. I have built many airfix and a couple of rubber band powered balsa aircraft (small) over the years and just had a few questions:
Bearing in mind I have a manual job and have a food feel for working with materials regarding their tollerance for stress:-
I am looking at the mantura 1/200 scale model and would like to know if this model looks good when built well.
Would I need to buy any specialist tools to complete the build?
Is this a suicide mission, or can I pull it off as Nelson did. maybee I should settle for plastic but am not keen.
please bee advised, I am gratefull for any advice given but if this turns out to be pants and the mrs goes mad I will have no choice but to blame whoever has advised me ;)
