Pictures on the Forum ( Photobucket )
« on: December 22, 2006, 01:57:36 PM »

Recently I have been going through a lot of past postings to see just what items of interest there are tucked away and hopefully benefit from other peoples experiences gained in thier modelling.

One thing I have noticed a lot of, which detracts considerably from the experience, is the number of pictures that have been removed due to them being too large.

If the postings on this forum are to be a valuable resource for future members or guests these pictures should be visible so my question is how do we resolve this?

Should we ask Martin to resize oversized pictures rather than delete them, which is probably an unreasonable amount of work, should we ask Martin to appoint one or two moderators to resize oversized pictures or should we rely on members either posting the correct size pictures in the first place or REPLACE them with a correctly sized picture if they are removed?

Hi All,

The current photo size limit of the forum is set at 640 x 640 & 150Kb per photo and then it displays it as a thumbnail until clicked.

The forum software is quite flaky in this area and during any hickups like we had in December, the first thing that seems to wobble are the photos, as you "deleted by Admin" - not me, honest!

I'm looking into hosting photos on another server / service like Yahoo, Goggle, Photobucket, ImageShack etc.

Picture below hosted on Photobucket.... instruction to follow soon!

              Photobucket Tutoral ......     Photobucket

This takes you to the Photobucket home page.

Click "JOIN NOW", which takes you to here,

Then you choose your username and password.
You will need a valid Email address so use one your not to bothered about , msn/hotmail Email's are perfect lol.

You then upload your photo's. It pretty straightforward , if you click on this bit

Once the photo's are uploaded you simply highlight and copy the following into your Forum Post Here!

Then paste it directly into the message body!

Re photo bucket.
Is it one that becomes yet another source of spam, requires spyware to be loaded, and the other problems these sites often bring.
I use Photobucket all the time and do not have any spyware loaded. Their old photo uploader was a downloaded
appication and was had a terrible interface but the current version requires no downloads what-so-ever.

Yet another password I've lost.
If loose your password and/or don't login for ages the account maybe deleted. I've had photos on there for years with
no problems....

I thought your initial post was working towards mentioning how often remotely hosted pictures time out after a few months making old
threads sadly depleted. That purly depends on you maintaining the account. By the way is it possible to enable the feature that shows
if a thread includes pictures? I know other forums using this software have it. SMF doesn't have that feature.

Apart from Photobucket ther many other photo hosting sites; ImageShack® - Tinypic™ - Flickr - Photolava.com - Snapfish etc. etc.
I can't recomend them as I don't use them myself....

You can either use Mayhem for hosting your photos ( Additional Options...) or use Photobucket (hosted on a independent service. )

If you can't see photos from Photobucket on here or access their site, you have a firewall setup very high somewhere....

Photobucket can also resize your pictures automaticly when they are uploaded. Watch out for that. Bit of a bummer if you are "backing up" the original photo there.
Photo bucket are also one of the few photo server co, that can find your account when you have lost your pass word.
Having not used it in a very long time, I needed to get on again for my boat build pictures. Pass word!!! After two days I contacted them, filled out a form, sent a mail and they found the account based on the content!!!

Never use anything else, never had spam from them either, (as far as I am aware).
