I have always used Irfanview & like everything else it keeps getting updated & extra features added. As far as I am aware it does everything that I want so what is better about Faststone in your opinion? I take around 10,000 pictures a year & crop , or something else very simple, to them all.

PS why does ???? now not recognize the end of quotes symbols & put my reply in the quotes? It has done this for the last few weeks & several of my posts have been corrected by moderators.

Faststone has a lookalike Windows Explorer interface that I'm comfortable with, intuitive folder management, can handle huge amounts of photos quite quickly, doesn't keep an ever increasing repository of thumbnails, batch processing of files, renaming, watermarking, emails and can even read RAW files....

Gimp (apart from the name!), has a strange 2 part interface I can't get my head around...

Actually, I also use Paint Shop Pro  ... 7 circa  2000AD!!!
Old but for 'simple' image manipulation, it VERY fast!

for resizing photos I still use the xp powertools resizer - still works in win 10 and you can resize with just a right click on the file

I also use FastStone - a great bit of kit - worth investing time to understand what it can do - I suspect I only use 5% of it's features

I normally just click to select several images / right click / email / pick an image size and save to folder rather than actually email - job done

It's also great for navigating your collection of pics

or just use photobucket?

You are having a laugh aren't you !!, you do realise that they are just allowing photos on 3rd party sites for only a limited time while they get their house back in order, then they will be blocked again unless you pay a fee..

From their Site.
last week
For a limited time, our current customers’ hosted images have been restored and Photobucket is introducing a new pricing plan that is built around everyone’s needs.

We trying to draft up a definitive guide to posting photos here on Mayhem.

This is what we have so far.... anything else needed?

 http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,61103.0.html

Of course you can use many of the many online image hosting sites, there are various guides in this topic but as they change so often,
no further guidance will be given.  ( Feel free to post you own guide if you wish! )

Hello Martin and others who like to see images. I am new to the forum as of yesterday, but I think I won't be trying to post any photos-- the process is simply too darn hard.  Why can't you do what RCGroups does: simply drag and drop and your software does the resize?  (sorry if this is heresy)

I read the latest instructions in this thread and--- I need an app to resize photos and then I gotta go somewhere and select "add attachments" as a setting?

Please help--is there a simple set of instructions on how to post photos into a thread on this  the site, that is written for people like me with no previous experience on Model Boat Mayhem?? (for instance, just what is the green button?) I searched without success)

I created a page on mayhem-images but so what? Are those images connected to the posts? (I haven't uploaded any yet, another challenge)

I see the images below and I agree it can be done, but we got the moon also.    I don't mean to be a wiseguy but I kind of like simple stuff and I won't use Facebook. Drag and drop works for me.

Thanks for any help and sorry if I make you reinvent the wheel.

Well I wonder why it wasn't before?? Anyway I didn't like  (could not do, more like it) the transfer from Mayhem images but this is OK.  I want to to describe resizing on Mac is is pretty easy (not so easy as drag and drop but oh well)

I use a free screen capture app called Skitch on my Mac. This is a nice mouse-driven app and allows some drawing markups and will even slide across multiple monitors. I use it all the time (as well  ctrl+shift+command+ 4, which puts the clip on the clipboard. Sounds clumsy but works great)

Adding a photo to the post-- View the photo from wherever it is, Open SKITCH, make a selection of the desired photo using the Skitch screen shot tool, then click Export upper left, and then it lets you resize the photo with a slider at the bottom. It is default at 85% (maybe that could be changed, I never tried) but I use the slider set at 40% and then save to a folder called Exported Photos. Then on the post attachment box choose that folder and file and its is pretty easy.

I suppose your instructions were saying pretty much the same thing with a different app, but sorry I didn't get it.

All happy now and made my first Post in STEAM forum with three photos.  Yay.

Thank you Martin

I use a xp powertoy image resizer, right click the pictures select resize and a popup with options opens, select medium, then just upload the medium size images using the add image option from preview

I use since I have it on the PC, Microsoft office picture manager - which is under the tools section, I open the dialogue box when selecting the right button on the mouse - go to open with and select the MS Picture Manager and select the tools tab and then resize the picture - two options on the right side, I use the percentage option where I always for consistency type 25%, then save the the picture - as long as its less than 500 KB not bothered, at 25% most are in the very low 100's or less than a 100 KB, big enough picture wise and small enough file size for this site.

« Reply #548 on: March 25, 2019, 01:06:29 pm »

Been trying to attach 3 correct size photos with no luck.

I have written the txt and the cursor is at a new line.
Under the txt box is "attachments and options"
I have browsed and found the 3 photos and these show BUT I can not see where OR how to load or complete .
At the top of the page is a "image" icon, if I click this all what happens is a jpep sign appears in the text. Preview shows nothing there
Can anyone help please, not very pc savvy

When you browse and find your picture, click on it once, then click on the box marked open. The browse window should close and the path name of the picture will appear in the box under the word Attach. Click on more attachments to add another picture. Repeat as required.  :-))
