Fusion - 400 R/C Model hovercarft
« on: May 19, 2010, 10:26:05 PM »

All,

Just to let you know that I've now completed designing the Fusion-400 model hovercraft, prototype test have gone well and the craft is now in full production. The blue part is a foam carving to create the initial mould tool for the prototype.

The Fusion is based around the 400 motor, it is around 400mm long and will sell for £40 (well £39.99), the craft will be available in White, Black and a few in Clear so that you can paint the inside as you like. The motor is mounted directly onto the Duct, so not additional mounting bracket is required. A standard 5" propeller fits perfectly inside the duct.

The battery tray will take a standard 7.2V model car power pack, but a 9.6V 2/3 Sub C powerpack (£13 to £15) will make the craft perform better, if you want to storm along then a 11.1V lipo pack will make the craft fly. With the larger packs the Rx and Esc is positioned just out side the battery tray.

A standard brushed motor available from J. Perkins (Have these in stock priced at £4.75, brushed ESC @ £11.95) will give very good performance, but if you want a racing craft then a brushless motor is recommended, these are priced at around £20 with a 40Amp ESC priced the same.

There will be a number of these on show at Wickstead Park Meyhem weekend on the 29/30 May 2010.

Postage for the Fusion will be £5.50 (subject to change), or you may arrange to collect if local. Should you wish to order one then please e-mail me on query@modelhovercraft.co.uk

Thanks for looking. Now then what shall we design next..............Flying Fusion? %%

Hi,
built a early model in about 4 hours. They really do fly on lipo's. Easy build at mayhem.
Now got three.
My daughters have one each and I have one so we could have a few at mayhem.

Hi Klunk,

Yes no problem, will have a few kits at Wickstead, bring some tools and we will  have a go, contact adhesive, 19mm Foam Tape, sharp knife, a few drills and an electric drill etc, I'll bring some tools as well just in case.

We will also have 3 other guys joining us on Sunday with their Griffon-2000 as seen at Warwick.

are there any graphics in the kit??? if not do you have some dimensions as I have access to a vynyl printer and can run off some simple single colour grahics!

If 4 is the meaning of life does that mean I cant have one as a 53 year old or should I wait until January next year when I will turn 54?
They do look like fun ,very tempted.

Right after a lot messing around, have finaly found time to sort the remaining bits out (electrickery stuff!).
First I have bought the 400 size accesory pack from Jag (reasonably priced as well!). The first problem encountered was the speed controller had a tamiya female plug attached! All my batteries (shop bought) have the same plug! Had to go to a model shop to get some new ones as I cannot find my ones!! Get home, cut and replug them. read instructions for speed controller (gws ich400\).  set switch at end of pack to 6n as per battery, switch radio gear on, set throttle to 50% as instructions switch on receiver...rudder glitches then sets at central position, press start button.....and nothing...rudder works, no motor control. any ideas??????/

hi.
i have one of these.
have you turned on the black switch?
if so then press the red button

then the radio should now work.

i have soldered the black switch so i only have to press the red one.

check the 2-3 channel switch as well and also recheck the cell switch

Hi Klunk,

As Ro880 mentioned, we removed the switch completely as this was a pain (i.e. cut the white wires below the switch and solder these together, we built over 45 of these in March 10), make sure the 6, 7 or 8 cell is selected on the speed controller, along with selecting the 2 or 3 channel receiver.

Also remove the spring on the throttle stick, make sure this is in the down position when you switch the Tx ON.

Connect the battery to the ESC, Rudder should work as this stage, press the red button and the motor should now run. The red button is a safety device.

Hope this helps, contact me on 07711 618483 if you need further advice.

regards,

Jag  :-))

Hi Nige,

The Fusion-400 have just been released, so not had a chance to get a video of it yet. Will try and sort something out in the next few weeks.

Thanks Jag,
Can you recommend an exact motor set up? I've looked at Perkins site and there are loads to choose from, both brushed and B/less.
Cheers

From personal experience go with a brushless motor set up, I got the brushed motor setup (which is good for a beginner), but am looking to upgrade after a month (will be buying and fusion 400 with brushless setup) HINT JAG!! I do say that after Jag built it for me its a nice easy build! Mine has been renamed HOVERSUB, as it has now been sunk twice, once by a sea queen going right over the top of it, and once by a Griffon 600tdx not being able to turn out of the way intime (both deliberate crashes as far as i'm concerned.....jealousy!!!!)
