Do you have any ideas why shes lying that hard to one side? And how much weight was in her?

Jan,

I thought Martin might have replied (maybe he has done so via email?). The puffer had 1 12v SLA and 2 6v SLA batteries as ballast. These were not nearly enough to bring her to the waterline. The list was due to one of the batteries moving when she was launched. I would think she will need quite a bit of lead quite low down. This will make her very stable I'm sure.

Happy sailing, she is a great looking boat.

Cheers

Just reading the message from Doug regarding how many batteries Jans puffer has in it, I might have to rethink the batteries that power my puffer. I have 1 12v SLA plus 2 7.2v nicad packs. I think on that basis I will need to secrete a house brick around the puffer to get it to its waterline.

Looks like my flexible friend is getting another outing this week, another 12v SLA perhaps

Martin,
Cut some lead flashing and lay along the bottom of the hull.
As long as it is either fixed in permanently you can mount the battery box(s0 on top.
OR
Cut and fit the flashing and use the battery in the battery box to hold it in>

Bob

TVM. All these suggestions, and probably a few more less helpful ones, were discussed last week at the pond.  The main reason the boat has not been properly and permanently ballasted is the cost of shipping it to Germany and not knowing what batteries Jan was going to use.

That's Martin's story and he's sticking with it  ;D

Martin allready knows what batteries i want to use, maybe he has it forgoten  ;)

2 similiar to these:
12V
7,2 Ah
L: 150,0 mm
W: 65,0 mm H: 94,0 mm,
Weight: 2700,0 g

In a Modelboat article he talked about 5-6 Kg of extra weight including the batteries.

Hi,  I think that it will have to be ballasted out once Jan has it in his possession and then it will be to Jan's preference which way to get the best trim.

here's my 10 penneth.   diver leads (like old type lead shot) mixed with resin and poured around the batteries which have a thin slice of foam around them so that when the resin is hard the batteries can be removed if required.

Yes we would liked both options, lead strips or lead shot in small bags and then set permanently in resin.
I like the idea of the lead battery tray.... :D but we've already fitted ply plates down in the bowels.

Congrats!! Looks great.

Hopefully the build tutorial can be finished cause I've been stuck with mine for 6 months now. The incredible, detailed instructions included with the kit are not that incredible or detailed  ???

Fantastic build, junior is now getting on with his I bought him for Christmas 2005.

We agree about the instructions, total gibberish in places.

Wonderful boat well done.

The boat has arrived and some damage has occured...

the wheelhouse was a bit lose, some part of the roof has been broken up, the funnel is broken up, the handrails are damaged, the left door has some damage, the rudder has some damage...

Nothing beyond repair, at last. Pictures later.

But i am happy to have her here.

Worst damage is the bended rudder and the roof. At last all can be repaired.

I try my best never to swear or use foul language but I nearly did that day when Jan told me and almost wept when I saw the photos...... of course my mate Bradders blamed me saying that was the only part of the boat I packed  >:(

Jan checked a photo of the packing this time!  ::)

Well its a heavy boat with box... so they moved it with a cart... small side to the ground... not Martin or Bradders is to blame for it.
