You'd have to see it in the flesh but if it is quality then for those out there who can't build even poorly never mind good it is an easy way to own a nice tug.

It's sad, because the Rovuma was a very pretty model of a fine ship, and a limited Tom Gorman production if I'm not mistaken, so who in their right mind would butcher such a kit [and expensive for it's day] to that state......the mind boggles.

just learned that this wasn't the aforesaid limited edition kit but a mobile marines model semi kit that one can buy in a series of parts........still, sadly probably way beyond the original builders experience.

This post of mine has taught me a very important lesson, and that is never, ever comment upon the skills of someone's build and definitely not without knowing the true facts.

I made contact with the seller on eBay and made a few helpful but disparaging comments about the model as well.

The seller got back to me and was very courteous to me although he had the right and opportunity to be very rude to me.

He explained that the model was built by a relative of his, who at 93 had been a very competent and very good model boat builder until a couple  of years ago when having been the victim after a very invasive and debilitating stroke, much of his mobility had been taken from him.

But as he had wanted to build this he persevered before finally succumbing to his stroke in the end.

I can only say that this has been a lesson to me and hope it serves to be a lesson to others, that people can only build to their own personal best, and sadly the model was as best he could do...........but in such circumstances, I ACTUALLY FEEL....... a triumph, and I am desperately sorry that I posted this..........could the mods please remove this section of posts. thank you.

You were not to know the circumstances. You can only go by how the model is presented for sale with any supporting information. The unfortunate personal circumstances of the builder do not enhance the value of the model. It was really up to the seller to explain any special considerations although, to be fair, they may not have been aware of what constitutes a well built model.

I can understand how you feel but don't beat yourself up about it.

On the Model Boats website I do sometimes have to explain to intending sellers that the work of their departed nearest and dearest doesn't actually have the monetary value that they had hoped for although I try to be tactful! Privately I am sometimes a bit sad that they don't want to hang on to it as a connection with their loved one.  I still have some of my Dad's paintings on my walls. Some are better than others but they were all done by him and I value them for that alone.

for 10.00 if the hull is as stated then It would be worth a punt to a builder either freelance or as intended, I see there is a bid on it.  In terms of looks, it is better than the one a few months ago that was on the auction site but to the builder I am sure it was their pride and joy.

Hopefully the hull will get turned into a great model..

Hi I was thinking much the same it could be brought back to life but it would cost me 50 in petrol to collect it, so not viable.  and it is the sort of thing I like doing.
Nice to know how the boat got into the state it is though, as has been said easy to make a judgement but at the end of the day as Colin has said it has been presented for sale and we do see some horrors and crazy prices on this thread.

I think someone is going to be disappointed  :o - this is not Trilight, but the vac-formed version listed at 30.84 on Deans Web Site. Currently at 56 on ebay %% %% %% %%  Even if Ron charges his full postage of 14.50, it would be cheaper from him!
