1/12 Clyde Lifeboat
« on: January 27, 2011, 04:03:29 pm »

This is going to be the third Clyde class Lifeboat that i will be running across Loch Ness in July in aid of the RNLI.  This is an event that myself and Neil Pritchard (nhp651) are organising and supported by Mike Pendlebury (Gribeavaul) who will be sailing his Clyde and Dave Forrester (Number 6).  We will be sailing the three Clydes across the 22 mile stretch of Loch Ness with the support of the local RNLI station and the local Sea Cadets, the RNLI have laid on an inshore lifeboat for us to run alongside in with the models....

We have chosen to run the Clydes because of the sheer size and will be able to fit large battery banks inside the hull (hopefully) !  You can see the size in picture three with my 1/12 Mersey underneath!

If anyone wishes to support us and the RNLI on this event Neil will be posting all details shortly..

Many thanks

Russ

We will have to get a set of drift nets and see if we can find Nessie for them Russ !!  :-))

It should be a sight to see with all three Clydes running together.

(Need to speak to you about batteries!!)

Hi Mike

I have had a re-think on the batteries, i may be going for the smaller ups batteries we use, 12v/100ah, just need do some calculations to see if i can fit two of them in the hull with all the other  gear..

Thanks

Number6,

I'll stick a link on my website to hopefully draw a few more sponsors when details are given. Do i have permission to use the banner you have created?

Hi there, I made the banner up out of stuff on the web. I don't suppose anyone will object to it being used to promote our voyage. The more publicity the better. Cheers, Dave.  :-))

Hi Mark, it's a monster for a monster trip. I think Russ needs to part with a couple of boats to make some space!  O0 O0 O0  See you Sunday hopefully, Dave.

well, we're doing it as a team, and so decided that the Clydes would be about as good as they could be because of the battery space inside the hull....and the fact that we really don't want to be carrying spare batteries in a small rib for replenishing, we are trying to get them to do a none stopper up trhe loch.

Unfortunately we only have the availability of a small RIB to carry us alongside the models, bit of a tight squeeze especially as we are not the smallest of people (more so Neil  {-))

Thanks

I'm going on a diet now. Should be fun using a RIB, hope it's an Atlantic 85 and not a 'D'class! They might have to ship a Severn over on a low loader! I'll have the camera ready for the 'You've Been Framed' clip of Russ going over the side! O0 O0 O0
