SS CANBERRA
« on: April 04, 2011, 07:41:57 pm »

hi there all,

just wondering does anyone know of any models of the Passenger ship SS Canberra of the Falklands Campaign - I have done a websearch and have come across the Airfix kit but cant find any radio controls model of her

Also, any ideas of the whereabouts of plans for the SS Canberra apart from Greenwich

There are small scale general arrangement drawings and deck plans in Philip Dawson's book 'British Superliners of the Sixties which are taken from the original Harland and Wolff records but of course these don't show the temporatry helideck structures.

hi there all

thanks for all the information - you have given a lot to think about - the owld rusty cogs are a turning over.

Ging my mate, at 1:96 scale the model must be 10 foot long?     Is there any chance you could put a photograph of her showing the hull sections 'close up' cos this was one way I was thinking of building the model (i.e. in sections) but, do the joints stick out like a sore thumb, with it being a white hull?

As a point of interest, 'here is one he made earlier', i.e. a QEII from the same builder as Colin's Canberra -

I hope this works, as it is my first attempt at posting a picture!

Since that worked reasonably well, here is one more in keeping with the original Post, a second Canberra, built a few years after Colin's

Canberra and QE2 - two of my favourite post war passenger ships I had the chance to go round her in Aden in the
mid 60s - Coming from a small destroyer she seemed huge and opulent and if I remember rightly was filled with
wall to wall crumpet. Happy days
