'Joggling' deck planking
« on: May 18, 2011, 02:14:22 am »

Hi,
I'm thinking of joggling the deck planking on my boat.
There must be a master class topic about it somewhere on this huge forum.
Could some one please point me in the right direction please.
Thank you
Mick

Mick
RR's link is useful and as has been mentioned in another thread, the search engine is the place to start.
As the top of each page shows a "search box" DON'T do what I just did, which is to type various words regarding "joggling" and "planking" into THIS box.
You will only get a reference to the post you have just made!!  (So why is it there - on every page?  - Maybe to add to the confusion of Mayhem??)
You MUST go back to the "HOME PAGE" (top left button) and use the search button there (it looks the same as the one on this page!) and all will be revealed.
I think this must be the source of much confusion with members as I have made this mistake MANY times previously and ended up with NO results.

You live and learn.
Cheers

In the instruction it is mentioned why the search box is there in every topic. ( i know because Martin & I wrote it  ;))

Always start a search from the home page and generally it will always find what your looking for.

Hi Gents,Thank you for the tutorial on searching.I usually did it from a topic, hence no results!
In all the info I found there is still a question.
The boat is 1/8th scale ,plank on frame with a ply subdeck and veneer planking.
If the margin plank is glued down to the subdeck, and I'm planking from the King plank out to the gunnels, how do I cut out the "notches" in the margin plank without damaging the plank that is already in place? And how do I then remove the little bit of timber from the margin plank that is glued firmly to the subdeck?
Or have I got it all wrong, should I be planking from the gunnels into the King Plank? If so, won't this risk having two odd width planks next to the King Plank in the center of the deck, which would really stand out to the eye?
The pic is my first attempt at planking, useing the ply\veneer system.
Thank you
Mick

Start at the kingplank, working sideways.

Then do something like this (laying the margin planks at the edge of normal deck planking).

If the margin plank is already stuck down to the subdeck, you can - with a sharp knife - cut into it to accept plank ends, and scrape the unwanted margin plank material away.

All easier to do, than to describe.  :-))
