HMS PENELOPE built with bits from the off cuts box
« on: July 09, 2011, 01:03:02 pm »

HI ALL
THE NEW BUILD IS A BLAST FROM THE PAST -  MARCH 1985 from the stables of Glynn Guest plans it is a standoff scale model built from left over balsa pieces since making the last model with bits from ‘that’s too big to throw away box of off-cuts’ the speed controller is a old Maplins kit from the same era 1985.  Couple of pics for you.

HI Neil

Your model looks excellent, could you tell me what colour paint you have used to paint the decks?  Cos I know the colour that is mentioned in the build article is no longer available - which is - Bleached Teak humbrol number HN4

Great model!  I have started several Glynn Guest models; you just can't beat the simplicity of the hulls. I know that the scale is roughly 1/144. I was wondering if anyone has built a Glynn Guest warship to use with R/C combat? It seems to me that GG models would be cheaper and faster way for people to get into the hobby.

hi all just a quick update well I am going to have to resort to employing some decent shipyard workers from the South of the Tyne   {-) cos the ones on the North of the Tyne are working too slow. %%

Progress is steady just finishishing off the main guns

Beautiful work - hard to believe that it's a standoff scale model from the photos you've posted, the model has a very "scale" look to it! The paint finish is great too. (Is the model entirely built from wood, or did you use styrene sheet/card for the bulkheads + other thin bits?)
Makes me wish I hadn't sold my own set of HMS Penelope plans a couple of years ago!
