Sirmar Fittings are Back
« on: July 11, 2011, 03:44:30 PM »

Hi
My name is Barry and I have taken over all the Sirmar stuff from Paul.
I am aware that he left a lot of members of this and other forums orders unfilled after taking payment.
I can assure you that orders placed will be completed by myself. I have over the past couple of months been completing orders and posting them out and I hope that members of this forum who have received there order will testify.
I am still clearing the back orders but feel free to e-mail Sirmarfittings@aol.com for an update on an outstanding order or to place a new one and I will reply with my mobile number.
I am working on the new website which can be viewed at www.sirmarfittings.com. It is still a work in progress and there are no prices on there yet but hope to have it completed soon.
I know that Paul has upset a lot of people and I hope this does not cloud anyone's judgement about Sirmar fittings and what I am trying to do.
i will not ask for any prepayments as payment will only be request once an order has been completed and ready for shipment.

On a lighter note I am looking for some ideas on possible new ships to add to the existing range. Any ideas?

Regards
Barry

With the demise of Sirmar, boat modellers of a certain age were observed diving into ponds and lakes never to be seen again.
With the resurrection of Sirmar they are resurfacing to place orders.
Best of luck with the venture and I am sure that all Mayhemmers are behind you

 Barry
If I was in your position I would look at destroyers and figates c.1920 to 1950 say or even earlier at a scale of 1/72 or 1/48 if I was being really, really brave. I would even look at some of the latest Chinese stuff if you can get some drawings and take Ark on at their own game.

I would also rework the "Hunt" hull which all wrong, and the fittings; and while I'm thinking about it a complete set of fittings for the V&W hull both as completed and the later refits.

Regards and good luck

Barry. If every one was as honest as you the world would be better for it. To forfill the orders that were
outstanding must be costing you time and money. I have a unfinished Sirmar needing parts.Hopefully in due
course i can place an order Thanks John.

Hi
Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I will take on board (no pun intended) your suggestions for some new ships, does not have to be a warship but we would need some plans.
Once again. Thank you all.

Congratulations Barry on going to the next stage :-)) :-))  I wish you all the success in the world.

For those reading this thread, I was one of the long term sufferers of the old regime.

Barry contacted me directly, and without prompting, to tell me that my Clyde kit was being attended to. I was pretty impressed.

At the predicted hour, the kit arrived, very well packed and in good order!

Based on this performance and level of honesty I would highly recommend the "New Sirmar"

Barry, I applaud your sentiment re no payment until the order is ready, however given the work involved, the materials required and quality of the work, I would recommend a deposit type system. Trust and commitment is a two way street and I am sure that those of us in the "fraternity" will not object to paying a deposit on order.

1/72 fittings might be nice.........

Agreed, I've made enquiries about a Clyde kit. Very quick response, I think I'll be having one when I've completed current projects and made some room. (by letting a couple of boats go <:(). Looks like good service all round, Dave.  :-))

Good luck Barry,

I am currently refurbishing a couple of 1/96th scale RN frigates and was really dissapointed when access to the replacement parts required had disappeared.
Thinking of building either a Leander or a County class destroyer next.

Can you give some idea as to lead-times of packs or parts for type 22, 42, Leanders and County class destroyers going forward?

Best Regards

I think the approach of catching up on previous failed orders is something that speaks volumes.  Not sure how many people ressurecting business that had previoulsy failed would do that.  With that kind of approach you deserve to make a success of the new venture. I know the new aproach is no payment until goods ready to be despatched but given the approach so far I would certainly have no qualms about paying on order and having to wait a short while.  Your integrity gives people confidence.

Barry,

Thanks for picking Sirmar back up, I'm sure a lot of folks are very happy to hear of it (me, for one).

As soon as you are caught up on back orders and ready to accept new ones, be sure and let us know.

I second what others have said- I'll be happy to put a deposit down on future orders, too. Mine will start out with some 1/48 RN destroyer items.

Barry,
So glad to see Sirmar rising again.
I really don't think there will be a lot of problems from the old company.
Too many modellers missed Sirmar (myself included).

1 word to possibly dampen the "new builds".
Paul asked on the forums which model should he produce next and the Type 45 came out most popular.
Out of 110 interested a small fraction actually bought the kit.

Will you continue the fittings and kit of the Hunt class at 1/48 as I need some fittings to refurbish mine!!

Best wishes

Bob

I agree with Bob/Shipmate 60 re 'New Builds'.

It is an admirable quality to try to give people what they want, but 'the people' seldom seem to be willing to provide the back up when there wishes have been fulfilled.
A sad fact of life I am afraid, considering the work and expense involved in bringing a new kit/semi-kit to market, to then have few of the expected sales to provide a return on the investment

So, I hope that people remember their 'sense of loss', when it semed that Sirmar had been lost to the market, and support them in the future.

I will close by wishing Baz the best of luck for the future, and adding that I am nothing more than a satisfied past customer, from the days of Paul Beckley and Paul Simpson.

Who said wishes don't come true, woke up this morning and said to myself, if i only had the brains and the money, or someone else can take over Paul's comany, and then i hear this, looks like that ship that has been on hold for last two and half years might get done at all,
Just want to wish you well Barry, i wiil be getting in touch when you get sorted.

Just feel sorry for Paul in the long run, but hope he still stays around in one form or another  O0

Ordered a type 42 hull and fittings from Barry late on the 13th July. Arrived this morning just before 8.  %%

Excellent quality and very well packed. Barry kept me informed of progress all through the manufacture process.

Extremely, pleased with the kit and the service. Would recommend him to anybody wanting to build one of his boats.    :-))
