Hello

Nice job Mermod,

Take care on the real hull, there is no visible line between the rounded part of hull and the bottom part. the rounded part and flat part are tangentials without separation line

The stern is not exactly like yours and more "rounded" when sideview - The line between the side plate and bottom plate is close to disapear when approching to the axis.

Hello again xtian , so good to hear from you , thanks for the advice on the stern , the wife noticed the transition was about right earlier on and gleefully said I told you so. Ill have to fix it on the finished hull, was also wondering if there is a clear shot of where the shaft exits the hull and also the bracing for the nozzle as I can find heaps of general views but nothing specific to theese items.

Thought you guys might like to know how this build started, I have a good friend named big steve who is an absolutely one eyed speed fanatic when it comes to rc boats , I think he has about 4 whipper snipper boats and to many nitros to count , in the 6 or so years Ive known him Ive heard just about every tugboat related insult known to man , most of these insults come about just after i push his boat back in with one of my tugs.
One morning I was doing the usual flick through the internet looking at powerboats on youtube with big steve when we came across a clip of the full size Abeille Bourbon pounding through heavy seas , that was the moment when steve mentioned that if I could get plans for it that he might have one, thinking that plans would be impossible to get hold of.
From that moment on it became my mission to annoy the 'rubbish' out of steve by finding the plans.
After a few months searching the net I discovered that MRB in France actually sold plans for it but I couldn't get any response to my emails and couldn't  work out how to use their website, I knew of one hobbyshop in the UK that used to be able to get hold of mrb plans but found out that they no longer traded.
After a bit more searching I discovered a nifty little website called Model Boat Mayhem and made contact with xtian29
He was helpful beyond belief and helped me acquire the plans Thanks again xtian.
So Big steve now had no excuse, we measured my trailer and decided that 2 metres would just fit nicely.
We decided to do a fibreglass mould for the hulls, cast all the fittings in resin and I would do the cad files and laser cut decks, accommodation etc.
I then had a phone call from another good friend we call Mr V, I had shown him the youtube clip earlier and had decided if we went ahead that he would want one as-well.
Then another friend Kiwi saw the plans , he had been considering building the billings smit rotterdam and we had been ribbing him for months about building a boat , he also had to have one.
So we are now about to build 4 x 2 metre long models (cool or what)

The plug came back from the painters yesterday......very shiny and looking huge.
The last photo is of my star perseus I put a coat of primer on while i was waiting for the plug, not relevant to the build but it came up so well I had to put it up.

Wow that hull looks great! It really is a fine looking boat. Have you seen my post about Billing boats are releasing a kit of the Abeille? Might be interesting to you, though it's 1/75. That other boat of yours looks excellent! What is it, have you showed it to us before? Good luck on your build!
All the best!

Fantastic finish on the Hull.  %%
Seems a pity to cut holes in it for the thrusters.   {-)

Hi brian B6 , the really sad part is that the plug usually winds up damaged and discarded after molding.

sorry guys, no updates just yet   I have been flat out trying to get my star perseus ready , the blower motors have been replaced with 510 kv brushless motors, she runs well in the test tank but I'm busting for a sail  on our local water, oh   and I'm also trying to develop a range of laser cut fittings ( watertight doors, handwheels , hatches etc ) but as soon as this is under control i will be straight back onto the abeille.

Very pleased to have run into you while down at the pond. After you mentioning to me about your build I thought that I'd look it up.  What can I say other than Wow impressive!!

I shall be keeping a close watch on this page to see the progress.

Thank for the positive comments guys , they are very much appreciated, I will definitely keep you guys informed as far as a kit goes, at the moment the guys down here are treating it like the models that come in the magazines, so as one part is finished or as they can afford it they purchase the next bit and do a bit more.
As for anyone outside of Australia I plan to glass in a central separation bulkhead so the hull will arrive in two parts that need to be bolted back together, this should make them easier to send.
By the way irishcarguy if you look at the last photo you can just see the lathe I was talking about in a separate post on small lathes.

Yes I can see the lathe in the background. I am learning to use mine .I have had it for about two months now. By the way my name is Mick, not a bad name for an Irishman. I think you are using a wood lathe to turn the Korts though. I think you will be surprised with the demand you will get for a kit of your boat when you have it available, it looks like you believe in quality & it shows. Mick B.

mold finally finished, just a quick sand to get rid of the sharp bits, at this stage the plug is still in there and the whole thing will be left alone to harden for a few days, at this stage it is very hard not to get excited and pull it out but the mold will distort if removed to early.

from the beginning of this build we were placing bets as to whether or not it would fit in my test tank, width wouldn't be a problem but we weren't sure about depth (the tank being curved on the bottom) so we sat the first hull in the water and then hunted for 80kgs of ballast...........luckily that sort of weight was easy to find.

Presumably you will make the ballast removable? 80kg is a heck of a lot of weight to carry. What do you think you'll use as ballast when the model is done?

hello 110samec , my speed controlls are capable of about 40volts so ill fill it up with as many batteries as is practical, a 12 volt 24 amp gel cel is around 20kg so a few of them should just about do it.
Also I plan to make a fairly substantial trolley that it can live on and be launched from, Ive already had one lot of back surgery and dont really want any more.
