My MMB ASD Tug....
« on: September 05, 2011, 05:20:50 pm »

Hi there all, well with this rubbish weather holding me up on the supertanker I've decided to make a start on my Mark's Model Bits ASD tug. I was very impressed with her maneuverability when I first saw one at Wicksteed and she's a good size for carrying round too being on 1/40 scale. It'll make a change from lugging round my big 1/32 scale tug Jojo. First job was to clean up the mould lines on the hull, then I started fitting the Korts. The last picture is of a nice Damen designed one 'Da Patten', more to come soon, Dave.  :-))

Very nice Dave.  We have several of the ASDs in the port of brisbane, and they are very maneuverable indeed.

Thanks Trooper, hopefully mine will be fairly maneuverable. Fitted the shafts and made up some supports for them, also made a start on fitting a bow thruster. I'm using a Rabosech one I'd got going spare as I'll be able to take it apart fairly easily if it ever gets blocked, if I fitted the Graupner one I got with it I wouldn't be able to get at the underside of it where the access cover is. More to come soon, Dave.  :-))

Blimey! Quick worker. Probably take me about 3 months to get to that stage  :-))

Nice work though.

Hi there, I'm not that quick a worker, just when I do start for the day I don't mess about! I've done a bit more over last couple of days but work keeps getting in the way! Got the bow thruster fitted and a piece of thick ply board in place to mount the motors and some of the electronics on. More to come over the next few days hopefully, Dave.  :-))

Hi there Norry, how you coping with these strong winds up there?? She's coming along nicely thanks, fairly straightforward build...so far. Done some more this afternoon, put the main deck supports in and had her weighed down in the bath for an hour with no major leaks, just a bit by where the bow thruster motor is fitted but I didn't tighten it up much so that's no problem, I hope. Hoping get the steering servo in tomorrow and get the battery placement sorted. Then I can get the deck on and make a start on the detail stuff. Not sure if going Blackpool but if I do I'll hopefully see you up there, take it easy, Dave.  :-))

Is it the camera angle Dave ? but the angle between the shafts and the motors seem a bit steep
Unless that's a cheap engine noisemaker!

Good build though, Keep the piccies coming as I am sure you will.

Hi there, well spotted. The motors aren't fitted in place yet, they'll be set on an angle so they're in line with the shafts. Dave.

I have been wondering how your build is coming along. I know you got laid off & that can have a serious effect on the cash flow. Hope you are well & continuing with the build, & Happy New Year too. Your build work is always inspiring, keep it up. Mick B.

Hi there guys, sorry not been on for a while, got no laptop at moment and awkward to post on my phone. Buildings on hold at moment until weather gets better and I've sorted out my workshop. Will hopefully be starting again soon, Dave . :-))
