Russ,
You just raised the game again!
How on earth did you get that crisp silver paint detailing on the hatch? I'd really like to know, because I would like to do similar on the Tamar. Can you give us a quick Masterclass please?
Fantastic.

Hi Chris

You have not moved yet then?

The silver paint is Humbrol 27002 polished aluminium painted with the finest brush you can lay your hands on!

Thanks

Russ,
I'm still spending half my time in each county! Hence the small amount of work on the model.

So did you paint the hinges and catches while they were in place or before you glued them on? (and I thought I had a steady hand!)

I'm working on the transom garage.
Spent last night trimming the four folding doors. I've added the underside detail and fitted the beads on which they will sit when closed. It's always a 4D puzzle with this kit. I'm constantly trying to work out the consequences of everything I do. Here, for example, whether that inner detail will stop the doors opening when I finally work out how to fit the hinges! Also, will it all clear that transom reinforcing bar? I'm resigned to finding out later.
I am not going to motorise the doors, but have them open as on the real Tamar, inside ones over the outers first, then both open out to the guardrails.
I had to remake the ribbing and access panels on the removable floor as I hadn't lined them up with the inner ribs of the rear door!! That was this week's "one step back".

Russ,
The pictures are absolutley outstanding, you certainly have a steady hand.

Was the water line painted in or did you apply a vinyl strip.

Gerard.

Thanks Paul

I made a start on adding some decals today that came in from Barrys Model Lettering, excellent decals and service  :-))

I have been trying to order the kickboards from Speedline who has been ignoring most of my calls and e-mails, it seems that if you are not buying a full kit then he as no interest. Looks like i will be scratch building these from 1/16 brass sheet...

Nice job Russ. Shame about the kickboards :((
Its a great pity that parts cannot be obtained from Speedline.
Your e-mails & calls should be answered even if it is with a No. No matter how busy people are they should reply to requests.
I know from reading on the mayhem you are not the only one disappointed.

I will be turning to the internal works soon before I get to far on the outside,  I have a smoke generator to fit in line with the sound system so when the engines start up smoke will exit the exhausts, I will also be fitting fibre optic lighting to the flying bridge controls where necessary...,

I too have emailed Speedline without a reply, (3 times). I am a potential customer willing to pay over One Thousand Pounds for their Tamar kit & figures. I have not  even had the courtesy of a reply to my query on total cost on packing & shipping to Canada. This leads me to ask what would I do if I had a problem with this very expensive kit living as I do on the other side of the pond. This is a very fast way to lose a customer. Model Slipway will probably benefit because of this sloppy service, they don't have exactly what I want but have the service to make the difference. Unfortunatley I too have lost all faith in them, I shall continue to build the kit and will scratch build the parts I dont have.  I have e-mailed and rang numerous times, at one point Adrian answered and asked me to ring back at a specific time, I did so but yet again no reply.  It seems if you are not "one of the few" then you stand little chance of getting what you need. I dont think I will be bothering anymore....

I think the main problem with Speedline is they are getting "too popular" at present, and they are loosing orders that have been placed. Seems they dont have an order book, or know who ordered what and when. I placed an order for a window kit 7 weeks ago, chased them after 4 weeks, then recieved a kit for a severn class [wanted mersey] and got loads of excuses for mistake.
I did find that they rarely answer emails. and YEs, you do have to persevere with phone calls, even to the point of leaving messages on both the landline and mobile numbers.

The build's looking great, keep up the terriffic work!

Yes, I have changed over to Simoniz as opposed to the other makes as it seems to spray on better and the red primer is slightly paler, been busy sorting other matters the past few days but Barrys Model Lettering sent me some replacement decals as the first "RNLI" on the side of the wheelhouse were a little oversized, this is the first time he as had to do this style of livery though!

Looking very good Russ. I think RNLI should have kept the older markings, not much for the new livery personally. Sorry guys as I've not been on here much lately, had my hands full lately, lol. Dave.  %)

That's very tidy.  Are you going to run electric wires up through?

Hi what do you prime the brass items with before you top coat as I often find that the paint comes off brass very easy if knocked.
