Treasure trove of plans
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:36:15 pm »

If you are looking for the plans for your next project, and you are thinking of a Nelson-era ship, or an early steamer/paddlesteamer, or have any interest in the construction and details of ships of this type (including the boilers for the steamers), have a browse through http://tinyurl.com/7uj4cyj. A smattering of French helps! (But Google Translate will lead you through, and you quickly learn the few important words and phrases.)  If you are into dioramas there are also plans for dry docks, floating pontoons....  It just goes on and on.  Many of the ships and boats have full hull lines provided but frustratingly a couple that took my fancy only have general layouts.

Warning!  There are well over 1000 plans in all.  If you are anything like me you will lose an hour of your life in the blink of an eye!

I only wish that that we had a similar system here.

Thats why I started building the French ships such as Arquebuse (See the pointy subject) because there's no need for a couple of hundred quids worth of plans from Greenwich.

Maybe plans of losing ships are cheaper than the winners   {-)

Sorry Jim, I'm not as old as you so I only go back as far as the start of steam!  I don't remember any actual battles between us and the French in that lifetime ( I don't include Mers El Kebir as a battle).

PS Does the Command House still exist as a pub?

Yup Command House still there. Never been though, in fact not been to many pubs in Medway actually.
