Just a little update and some information.
Try as I might, and I did try many times,I just could not interpret the drawings from the plans, into 3 dimensions.I admitted defeat, and asked a fellow modeller who is actually a really excellent maker of model warships to make it for me,Terry Pyper.Thank fully he did a wonderful job.
I then enlisted another modeler, Colin Fisher of the Plymouth Model Mariners Club, to assemble all the usable parts and fittings that I had done, onto the model,in the meantime I purchased some very expensive stainless steel railings, which he also fitted.
Without the help of these two people,to whom I am very very grateful,I dont think the model would ever have been finished.
So here is the all but completed superstructure
I hope you will appreciate the many hours and years! of work that has gone into her,and she is almost correct to the plans.
Remember she is to be a working radio controlled model, and there is a great deal of detail already on her,and some more to add yet
I will be adding a little more to this article as and when any progress is made
Thank you so much for all the interest shown, and your comments and the help from all sources
Sincerely
Aye

That is a lovely bit of model making. I cannot wait to build my own models of capital ships and hope they are this good.

A few retrospective photos of the earlier stages of the build, before,in a few days I will show the model in its completed build state, with the electronics to add after that
Thank you all so much for your interest,I never did think my model would ever get finished, but with a lot of help and advice from a number of good friends, and strangers who have become good friends (Its amazing what the offer of a real Cornish Pasty can do! lol) I have actually achieved my aim.
She will be taken along to Portsmouth,in April,to show the very few surviving members of the crew who served on her,Members of the HMS RAMILLIES ASSOCIATION, that I am so very proud and honoured,to be the Secretary of.
Sincerely
Aye

Been adding a little more detail.Around the Bow area and Turrets. The individual planking has been completed and stained.
Two of the turrets,A and Y will have barrel flashes, and the sound of a Battleship gun firing. This was to be of a 16 inch gun,but in the BBC archives,a friend has found the sound of a 15 inch gun.I cant tell the difference. Thanks to my friend and fellow modeller, Stan
who kindly dug out and rewired an old unit from his scrap box.

Well done Mick.

You should be very proud of your efforts, she looks remarkable.

Glad to see that the charming village of Carharrack now has it's own heavy Naval Defence Force. :}

Another small update.Although the turrets have individual servos mounted under them,to enable r/c turning, and they do work a little,I have mounted leds and a flash unit in two of them,ie 4 barrels.I cannot get the turrets to move more than a few degrees off centre, certainly not as much as I had hoped!Maybe I have used to heavy a gauge wire,as I had to lengthen the very short supplied length by over a metre. The flasher unit is working, but I need to slow down the rate,by turning the pots lower. These are oper
ated with a micro switch,so I suppose I will have to install another servo to operate the flashing leds, and also the sound of the guns firing..
I have also been modifying some of the fittings to give a little more realism, but I must admit the turret rotation has me perplexed at the moment!
Some small progress still being made, but its only 3 weeks until her ex crew see her!!

With my model of Iron Duke I use a servo sized sail winch to winch the turrets round in two groups(forward and aft groups). There is no reason why you can't use a servo sized sail winch directly under the turrets. There are small servo slows from various manufacturers (see ID thread for details) which work with the sail winches  and if you have a modern radio set you may even have servo slow and certainly servo throw (limits) built in that you can adjust.

I spent a long time and quite a lot of money on turret turning systems over the years and have generally found the simpler systems are just as good and just as reliable as more complex systems.

If you want to get the guns to fire have a look at the latest details on ID as the new concept would really suit your model.

Hope this may assist.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply Geoff, and yes I have been following your build, and just wish I was capable oof producing anything near as good and accurate as yours!
I am not a modeller, and never will accomplish much,Im afraid I rely on a lot of friends helping me out.
Even what you describe as simpler ways is beyond me Im afraid. I will be lucky if I get smoke coming out of the funnel, never mind the gun barrels! I will be using a water vapour unit for that though!
A thought occurred to me about the short distance my turrets will turn,do all servos turn through 180 degrees? If not that could be my problem!
I will be attaching the units to slow down the movements in the future, but I am limited to time as I want to get it ready for our reunion,on April 3rd,and sad to say we lost another member this week.
Thanks again for your advise

There are stops in the servo you can alter to change the amount of travel, there are servomorphs that increase the travel and there are servos that have greater travel preset I think. Your best bet is to get onto a specialist like Servo shop https://www.servoshop.co.uk/  Or Howes models https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/ or Action www.action-electronics.co.uk/, who do servomorphs. These folks can advise and help you with your efforts.

I would like to thank Mike,Gribeauval, for posting my photos a few days ago,and apologies that they were not too clear,my shaky hands were particularly bad that day.
However I have a few more you may like to see,but first the story behind them.I took the model up to Portsmouth for the 27th Annual Reunion of those that served in the Ramillies.Sadly,we only know of 10 surviving crew, and we were so very Honoured to have 5 of them at the reunion. This was to be our last Formal get together, but those who are able to make the journey, will travel to Portsmouth next year and every year for a get together,as the friends and Family we have all become.
The oldest member,Vic,is 98,you will see him sat next to the model in a wheelchair. The others are all well into their 90s.It was so good to have them look at the model, and inform me of parts that should be there, and where their action Stations were, and where they slung their Hammocks.

This is Vic aged 98,who was head Ships Cook during his time aboard. One morning he popped into his family home and announced he was going to be sent to the Ramillies. He said his goodbyes, and a Cheery "See you soon" and returned FOUR YEARS Later!
