Now that is a truly challenging hull shape.  Great work.  Coming on nicely.  I will be following this regularly with interest.   O0 :-))

Now I have not seen a hull done this way for a long time.  Will you be putting a second layer at crossed angle to the first?

Have you thought about letting someone take a fiberglass mould from the hull?

BTW Tom is an old family friend and a great guy

Hi, yes I have already said I built her in "double diagonal" this gives much strength, and was the way I was shown. All older wooden lifeboats were built this way, with a layer of canvas in between,my build does not have the canvas. If this type of build was good enough for lifeboats, its good enough for me!
There wouldn't be much point in taking a mould from my model (she is long past that stage anyway) as Deans Marine already do a fibreglass semi kit, in the same scale as my build, of the Royal Oak.
I agree, having met Tom a couple of times, he is indeed a great personality. He likes his "bit o blether!"

This one looking along the inside of the hull toward the bow, after an initial coat of paint. Yes Neil, that IS one of my lifeboats poking its nose in!

A slightly longer view as before, showing the stations well, and also the many ribs. The two plastic tubes are fixed in place in the bow area, which will be eventually sealed, but just in case I get some water ingress, I can draw it out with a syringe. Thats all for this time.thanks for your interest.

Just found a few more lousy photos of my build,I do apologise for the quality of the photos. The quality of my build isnt uo to much either!
The first two photos show the Gun Director Platform, and method of construction.Quite simply it is 1/8inch plywood, cut to the shape traced from the plans, with a hand held fretsaw.Turning it over, you can see the strengthening strips are cut and shaped from Litho Plate. This is the first time I have used this medium, and find it fairly easy to use.The method of adhesion, was early type superglue! It has hels most parts together over these past few years,so hope fully it will last a bit longer !

The photo above, shows the Gun Control Deck, marked out, showing roughly where other items will be placed. I have to upload in such a low resolution, the photo is even worse than I thought.
The photo below, shows the underside of the same deck, showing the strengtheners made from Litho Plate. This I find to be a fairly good medium to use,but is getting scarce.Luckily I have a good amount to play with

This next shows the Gun Director Tower, this is made from a combination of Litho plate, and good old Milliput !
First the top, and then the underneath

showing more of the gun directors, including the first assembly. Still an awful lot of work to do here, to get it looking right.

This next photo shows the final version of the completely revamped 15inch Gun Director, somewhat of an improvement?

Considerably later, this shows the boat deck added. !/8th inch ply was the material used,of a reasonably good quality, which when cutting did not splinter as much as the cheaper stuff

Another very poor photo, of the rear part of the Boat Deck. You will note also that the 8inch gun turrets have been mocked up,again, these will be improved at a later date.

Well I know its a long time since anything was posted on this build, but things have really progressed. My hands have really got shaky, and I enlisted the help of a couple of good friends to help me finish off the model.
Unfortunately, neither of them took any photos of just what they had done,in stages.
She is almost finished now,and later I will post some photos of what has been happening.
