Ok now whats the catch ??????

Well, we actually all slipped sideways into an alternative universe where Mayhem never crashed. It shouldn't cause problems but if you get a lot of headaches.....start to worry.  {-)

Thanks Martin. You're a star.  :-))

Hi
I was the same.  Apparently all will be well and restored given enough time.  At least that's what I was told :-) :-) :-)

Sorry but I must have missed something, I had to re register with a new ID and loose my history to get back on the site but many people seem to have their old ID and activity records etc.

Can something be done to retrieve the situation or is this just tough luck  {:-{

Joking aside I really missed the whole bunch of you, even Dave from ACTion, yes Neil & Norseman you guys too. Thank you Martin you are one SUPER guy. Now how about us all dropping a few nickels in the bank to help Martin with the cost of fixing everything, I am sure it is worth a bob or two to have our forum back again, Hi to you all it really is super to be able to talk to you all again, Mick B.

event is pretty much sorted          the reason for no income is because  i borrowed money from "mum" to pay to finish some subs of and ive just brought another sub   and a mtb

will likely sell some of my boats in near future to fund my new projects

The great Doggy Geezer put this together for us - Top Man.   :-))

What happened?

During Jan / Feb 2012 annoying  '504 Tijmeout' errors started effecting many members logging into to the Forum. After many queries to the site hosting company and to SMF, the Forum people it was suggested several s/w upgrades were required. The  biggest of these was initiated on the evening of March 13, 2012. It was expected that the forum would be off the air for a few hours....
http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11159.msg359774#msg359774

It turned out that the inbuilt backup facility doesn't work properly, and an arduous manual; rebuild had to be undertaken. This kept the forum unavailable for several days. It eventually returning on 19 March.

So everything's all right, then?

Well, yes and no. The forum is back up, but the majority of User account / Login details were trashed (6,0000+ in fact!) Many, many posts lost the link to there owners and all those saved PM were also deleted as they suddenly had no owners! These are slowly being investigated and repaired where possible...

Ah. So what will I notice when I sign back on?

Some of you may be able to sign on as if nothing has happened. But many of you will find that your old username/password will not work.

What should I do then?

Go to the  button above and register your name again, as if you were a new user. Once you have gone through the registration process you will be able to access the forum again. BUT you will be treated as a new user...

In this case, can I pick a new name?

Of course! But don't pick a name that was already known to be connected to an original user. People who had signed on under a particular name on the old system will have first choice if they want to use that name again.
Remember to fill your profile in again - in particular your location!
http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1448.0

Does this mean that my old posts, personal messages, pictures, avatar and the rest have gone?

Not necessarily. Just no longer connected to your 'new' username. We are slowly going through the files and re-connecting people where possible. All the old posts are still visible on the forum - just not connected to your new name, even if they have your name against them...

But I had important information in PMs/a spectacular avatar/a really high post number/etc! What should I do!

Keep calm and don't panic! Martin is still in recovery mode, and we hope to get a lot of our data back eventually. This may take some weeks, however. In the meantime, if you have a specific urgent reason for needing a manual fix, you should PM Martin and he will try to fit it in. Examples of a special reason might be:

I want to offer an item for sale and I can't do it because my posts are set to zero
......etc
.....etc

In general, try to avoid bothering Martin with questions and issues which can wait for the next two weeks. If you want to know what's happening, read this sticky which will be updated whenever there is something important to report.

Latest News:

I now have a "repaired members file - I'll test it on the temp forum this week....

Regards,
 Martin & Co.
