Vintage yacht
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:08:14 pm »

Hi,
I was given this yacht today, yes there is a God.

Although the plan rates her as a Marblehead, 50-800, she is 51 and a half inches long. Very over engineered, the mast is nearly an inch in diameter.

All hand made with plank on frame, even the cabin.

If possible I would like some design ideas for the cabin. I am not altering anything major.

Regards

What a very nice thing to be given Rickles!  <*<

Vis-a-vis the cabin, how about just tarting it up with a bit of brass work? A few port holes? Some rails? Leave it as is but make it a bit more stand-of-scale....sort of thing?

Hi rmaddock,

That sound good, I like that idea.

I gave the hull a a wash and clean today and stripped down the fittings.

I have found a web site that does vintage scale fittings.

Hi,

It seems the yacht is in far better shape than I thought,

The deck has also been varnished.

Should I use a quarter scale servo for steering?

For a winch I will be using a Rob Guyatt winch.

I wish I could stretch to a few of those for my boat...they'd solve my problems in an instant. Hey ho.  :((

Glad to hear the boat's in good condition though  :-))

Hi maddock,

My first winch from Rob is in my Marblehead thaat I use for racing.

Its nearly twenty years old and still works like the day I bought it.

It has been back once to Rob for a check up, prounounced ok and back in the yacht.

The instructions for maintainance is easy, spray or submerge in WD-40.

Very expensive but more than worth it,
