Yet another new member
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:53:09 pm »

Hello everyone,
Having just joined I thought it polite to introduce myself.  I grew up near Southampton and later did some seatime with the RN & RFA. Probably like most people on this forum, as a child I built plastic kits from Airfix & Revell. Always had a soft spot for passenger liners from yesteryear.
I started again in my mid-30's and whilst working for C&W in the Falkland Islands I built the RMS Lusitania (1/350) and wired it up with old Christmas tree lights. Since then it has had a major rebuild and I used 6v lamps. If I ever do it again I shall use LED's.  I then continued with SS United States (1/400), QE2 (1/450), QM2 (1/400) and of course Titanic (1/350).
About 4 years ago I decided to progress onto r/c. I started with a Glynn Guest project (a naval frigate), before beginning my biggest one to date; a Deans Marine kit of HMS Cossack (1/96) which morphed into HMS Somali. This is cos I have a close family link with that ship.  <:( My next project which I hope to start next year is of the ship I served on in the 1970's: HMS Antrim. So far I've had a quote from Sirmar for the hull and am waiting for one from Fleetscale but thus far nothing heard. Maybe cos they are concentrating on a 1/72 GMD hull.  In the meantime hope you enjoy my pics.
Kind regards
Alan

Welcome to the Mayhem!

Excellent model, any chance of close up photos and more details?  :-)

Hello chaps,
Happy to oblige, here are a few more. BTW I forgot to mention that I belong to 2 clubs: Eastleigh & District and also the Surface Warship Association. We attend local shows & exhibitions during the summer months around the Solent area.
For info I have also included another QM2 that I built for a friend, the Airfix 1/600, and dusted down my old Mauretania 1/600 for a comparison. Since taking the shot of QM2 1/400 I have replaced all the railings with Brass Photoetch's.

Kind regards
Alan
