Oh yes. I had a go at a pint of "piddle" I'm not kidding. It's a local brew before any one thinks any thing else.

Wow what a great way to spend an afternoon . I got the helm on the seven lb simulator . I would like to say how good it was . Sailed out of Dover to a burning boat and pick up 3 crew from the sea & pick up the rest of the crew from the liferaft the turn back to Dover harbour. Ok so I did hit another boat on the way out !!! Oops but once I got the hang of it , it is a great bit of kit.
If you fancy a go just book a tour with them £6.50 well spent .
The lifeboat beer was good in the bar and there is good food as well. All in all 10 out of 10.

Back home now.  :((
I have to say if you are in or around the Poole area the RNIL collage tour is a must. You can even book a room staying at the collage . They are nice rooms overlooking the bay.

I did Scoop. The simulator was of a Seven deck with surround screens all round you, the movement was just like being at sea. However the ground did not move but the graphics did. A very strange effect and it made it feel so real. I asked the wife to take some photos but she was busy trying to keep her dinner down. I think they had put a 1 meter wave on the screen.
I want to take the helm of a real lifeboat now :-))

Looking good.  I head there the second week in August for crew training. I'm back at my local station as crew of D-Class and Mersey Class. Lifeboat college was just starting to be build when I left.

A few more pics. I was told they can make waves on the pool and wind machines Strobe lighting, and hose pipes make it all very real in the test tank.

Nice one :-))
It looked a tad chopy in the pool. I bet it was fun getting the boat the right way and back in it?
