I have lately been occupied with my build of the London Routemaster bus.

This is scratch built upon a Tamiya truck chassis and contains electronic lighting and computer controls. I have now made a YouTube film showing how it was done , but to give a taster, here are some pictures.

Brilliant!
I thought you were going to RC the Revell Kit not scratch build the whole thing!

Nice to see the old DX7s getting some use :)

Might I suggest a higher turn motor as I don't remember them having that much speed lol

Probably telling you to suck eggs but the Carson Poison Truck motor might be worth a try... only about 15 quid as well

Thanks for the kind comments.  It was fun trying to emulate this model.  This is why I usually get a toy model first to get the proportions right. I did the same thing with the Titanic.

I am quite happy with the 6 gears I have. I already have a 80 turn motor fitted so that it can go really slow to really fast. I had to drive O.T.T in the garden as the little tyres didn't grip the grass unless spinning.   %) maybe I'll have some more pictures when I go to the local club's hall where I can creep up and down. ( they don't allow speeding and models have to be locked into bottom gear)

I do love your old DX7, can't fault it for controls. It's now got 6 models embedded in its memory  ??  Just one quick question.  Does it hold this memory if the battery is removed, do you know. ?

I think the aluminium angle sections will provide greater structural integrity/strength
What size are all those metal thread screws.....M3?...& are they domed head? ...Phillips or Pozi?

Yes it does.... it has a flash memory similar to that found in USB memory sticks etc

Thats a serious piece of kit, meant for extreme 3D helicopter pilots.  The only reason I let it go was because I didn't read the specs fully and needed the trainer port (which I think is the only feature it doesn't have lol.

Did you build the revell bus kit or just use it as a template? I keep looking at buying one

Hi Essex,

Thanks for the info. very reassuring.   :-))

I started to build the Revell kit and measured as I went along.  For future reference to anyone having a go, the multiple formula to get up to 1:14 scale is multiply all the parts and locations  by 1.9   :}

I needed to assemble up as far as the overall shape to complete the measurements. When I saw the multiple curves of the roof line it was decided to go for an open top bus.   As it stands at the moment I have a running chassis with the ground floor seats installed.  The kit is a lovely one and with care will make a super model as seen by others on YouTube.  It only costs £39 from Amazon delivered.   :-))   I did think of finishing it off, now that mine is completed,  I'm all  'Bussed out' so I've started a Volvo truck now.

Sleeper 123, that is a wonderful job you've done there. They are great fun to build although a million problems keeping the grey cells busy.  We'll have to watch out that tamiya don't get the idea.  Te He

Cheers

I have been forwarded the following Ebay item if anyone is interested.  It's a Gas powered truck but it doesn't look like a Tamiya even though it says 1:14 scale.

It's on until 11 June.

Thank you very much.

I am now 'doing' the Volvo truck kit,  as I had bought it for the necessary parts for the bus. Unfortunately it's a bit of a closed shop when it comes to getting them as some are not available.  I have been fabricating some today and come to realize these kits costs what they do because of the bits involved.  hey Ho.

I don't suppose anyone has an old one they want to sell ?

Not to worry.  The parts are now on order and paid for.   %)

What colour did you go for  ? I'm finding it such a simple build so am completing it in original white plastic at the moment so I can leave the colours until I've had a think.  Mind you, it looks queer sitting on it's chassis on the bench, wheel less.   {-)

I'll soon be getting on with the truck wash machine I have in mind.

Just a few pictures of the Volvo Truck as I went along.

We are up to the wiring of the lights now that we have a rolling chassis.

Hi Ken,

It's a TAMIYA SCANIA 1/14 R470

Want to use a load loader trailer with it for a 1/16th RC Tamiya Tank, I have the Tamiya Leopard 2A6 tank.

Do you think the scales are near enough?

Pete.

Many people use tanks on low loader trailers and they don't look out of place. Speaking off the top of my head, the 1:16 scale is around 10mm smaller.

However, in the world of low loaders they are very expensive and not made by Tamiya anyway. i make my own trailers as I'm looking for the unusual.

Here's my latest low loader.  Since taking this picture I have started more work on it by making steerable rear wheels as it cut's across corners at the moment due to it's length.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the info and pic of your low loader, looks v nice.

Yes the Tamiya trailers can be expensive so making / modifying one is probably best.

Many Thanks.

I will look at your truck site too for more info.

Thank you very much.

Don't forget to  JOIN as we need more members.  :-))

I went to a meeting in Bristol today and saw the new trailer by Carson.  Only £520.... :((   which proves what you say about making them yourself.  Now I've seen how it's done. I recon I could make one for a quarter of that price.

Cheers
