Hi Yannis
looked at your vid .about 40 sec to open the door. Bit slow you want to be a round 15 sec max . Trying to hold a ferry steady for 15 sec while the doors lowers is hard .

Well done Yannis............... :-))

I like the sound of the hydraulic pump screaming over the top of the counterbalance valve which allows the ramp to be pushed down [lowered] and [pulled] raised ......I suggest the slowness of the ramp movement adds realism.......

Sorry.... :embarrassed:...I didn't explain myself properly  <*<

All wire sheaved hydraulically powered vessel ramps are driven down......not any free fall of wire....the force [hydraulic pressure] is set by the counterbalance valve and is a greater setting than required for hoisting or raising up....the reason for this is if hydraulic power is lost, the ramp will lock up and not free fall out of control to the wharf

This is why the audible sound of the ramp being lowered is always greater than the sound of the ramp being raised

Looks good, but I agree with the others, it needs to be a bit faster in operation.

Thank you all very much for the feedback, much appreciated :-)  I went today down to the port just to watch them real things departing for the mainland and see how long it takes to raise the rump! Well, it takes sometime but maybe a tad faster than mine, not a lot! So, to start with I think I'll go for a bigger thread and see from there!!!

Yannis.......if you must change the speed >>:-(, ...is the servo drive rotation motor running on 4.8V ?......if so you could consider increasing to 6V   %)

For interest, what was the real vessel ramp lowering speed/time?....& confirm your scale of build.....from there a simple calculation will confirm a distorted visual image where true scaled speed can appear too fast ........ Derek

Derek, increasing the voltage is out of question because I allready run it on 7.2V {:-{  I came up with another solution wich works fine, see below!

I've been adviced by a fellow modeller from a Greek forum and made some mods to the system wich work fine to my opinion! Also changed the ramp with the prototype I made for casting as the epoxy one was too heavy! The speed is more scale now and I'm quite happy with it :-)  Please, tell me what you think, here is some photos and a video

Yannis....yes a slight difference in speed....still appears fine in operation :-))..... I would have thought that the heavier ramp would have provided a more realistic visual.............Derek

One problem you might have in use is that the lines will wear through the plastic servo arm you are using. You should try to fit some form of a pully for the lines to run around to stop this.

Hi Yannis
That better. Does your ramp have two settings fully up and fully down or can you stop it 1/2 way ?

Yes, it would Derek but it was way too heavy I think, it was almost stalling the mechanism. Thanks for the kind words :-))

Yes, you are right Jim, I'm going to fit a pulley :-))  I'm having it this way only for now, just for testing!

Hi Yannis

This is a lovely build. I liked that you detailed the passenger lounge. Impressive all round.

Hi Yannis
I have this to on Celestine. I am thinking of changing it so I can lower say 75% of the way down then stop. then do the final 25% Later. What I have found it can be hard to keep a ferry lined up for the time it takes to lower a ramp. So mine takes about 12 s so As I am going in asten I can lower 75% when I am lined up with the dock lower then final 25% which would mean I only have to keep her lined up for about 3 s .Just some thing for you to think about

That's a good idea John but how do I go about it? Do I put an extra end switch? Do you have any diagrams! I'm no good with electrics!

Yannis.......stick with making model boats...as you make a very terrible lob sided clock maker  {-) .......

Naturally the shadows [Hank Marvin style] make the spoking look twice as complicated as it is  :o

Is that threaded joint just below the 3 position pin the tensioning for the complete work?

merry Christmas.... Derek

No Derek, it's just joining two lengths of wire together! Thanks for the comment and really, being a clock maker never crossed my mind {-)
