Greetings From The Great White North!
« on: December 02, 2012, 08:56:52 pm »

That's right, I live in Canada and it's snowing as I write this. Hibernation season, AKA modeling season. I live near Calgary, Alberta with my Wife, Son & Labrador retriever. I'm a retired electrician after 30 years with one of Canada's major railroads.

I have acquired a Tyne Class Lifeboat that I'm hoping to put together even though I have no idea what I'm doing. I believe this model originated as a Model Boats magazine "Full Size Plans" article from the mid '80's. I have a photo copy of the magazine article & plans as well as some fittings and an ABS vac formed hull. The model could be built as a static display or R/C equipped. I don't have anything required to get her moving on the water and I'm not sure what scale it is.  Any and all help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Gary.

Hi Gary, welcome to the forum, and welcome to the beautiful world of RNLI lifeboat model building.
we have a Tyne class lifeboat in my home town as operational, the coxs'n and mechanic are friends of mine, so if you want any photos of a real boat to help you along, just shout..........if this thread gets posted/rearanged to the lifeboat section or if you want to start a build thread on the lifeboat section, I'll post those that I have for you to be looking at to go on with.
neil.
Ps, our boat is 47 - 038, RNLB William Street.

Thanks for the greetings guys. And Neil, your offer of photos is very generous & I would love to see what ever you have or can get. I suppose I should start a build thread in the lifeboats section where it belongs.

Mick is having a root canal done this week - so I expect some Calgary dentist will be a little richer.

Hi guys, I am still around, just. I wish my head belonged to someone else right now as I am still waiting for the root canal, Tuesday is the day. I would like my Calgary neighbours to contact me as I feel I can now offer a lot of help, having spent the last year plus cutting through the smog to get to the serious bit which is what to buy, where to buy, & where to get help when needed. (HERE). I can show them how to spend lots of money too, LOL. Mick B.

And that's how The Calgary Landlocked Lifeboat Club began.  %)
