New to the hobby having trouble with electrics
« on: December 06, 2012, 09:50:30 am »

Hi Folks,
I am quite new to the hobby and I am currently building Metcalf Mouldings Graemsey. I have just installed the electrics but when the transmitter is in nutural one of the motors is making a noise and creeps over. I can stop it by adjusting the trim but it still makes a slight noise. Is there anyway I can stop this happening. I have built a single screw boat before and had the same problem. Am I doing something wrong?
On this build I have used twin MFA torpedo 500 motors, single 12v 7amp lead acid battery with two mtronic 15 amp speed controllers set up as tank steering.
Hope someone can help please.

Hi Bob,

Sound like the normal high pitched whine you get from modern speed controllers, what make and model is it?

Hi Martin,
The controllers are Mtronic 15A viper marines.

The good news, Bob - if these are the "Viper Marine 15" speed controllers from Mtronics, and not the "plug and play" ones - I had this with mine.  :-))

They simply need to be told where neutral is during set-up, else they want to creep a little.

If you've not got the instructions to do the set-up, they're on the Mtronics website right here.
