Hello from Lincolnshire
« on: January 24, 2013, 12:26:50 am »

Hi to all,
I am pretty new to all this but I always wanted to give it a go, so here I am, have some plans for a trawler (I think) "M.F.V. EILEEN" Designed by S.Jewitt from Model Makers Plans Service, I have had these plans for years and did once start on it, the plans are, I think, full size at about 3ft long, hope this all makes sense.
Do you think I am being a little ambitous, I am reasonable at working in wood, albeit making poultry houses and hanging doors etc, I have done many things in my life so far, some of which are, brewing real ale from grain and restoring classic cars.
Well that's enough rambling on, I look forward to getting started

Morning Troutrunner,
My advice is 'give it a go' but with one preface; join a club or at least go and have a chat face to face. The forum is brilliant but is no substitute for talking and doing in reality. I am a member of 'Hartsholme electric MBC' we sail at Hartsholme, Lincoln every Sunday 10 am. Why not come over and have a chat. There is of course Grantham MBC and others that may be nearer. Whatever you decide. We all wish you well.
Regards

Yes, Welcome to the Mayhem!
( Lunch in the mess hall, 12:30, bring your own weapons! )

If it's fairly ambitious build, start it but also start a fairly simple /quick wooden kit that will help you orientate yourself with tools, equipment & processes.... and will get you on the water fairly quickly. Perhaps something like one of the Vintage Boat Company kits - http://www.vintagemodelboats.com/

Hi Troutrunner,
Welcome to Mayhem (aptly named as no doubt you will soon discover).
I was up your neck of the woods yesterday in Lincoln Cathedral for my son's graduation. Beautiful building inside and out - unfortunately the only    warm place inside was the toilet! Mind you the A46 is better now than the last time I was there.
All the best,
Dave.

Hi troutrunner,it is still in wyndham park, but i belong to kinglear model boat club(wanlip-leicester).most members have joined other clubs(aprox 30mile radius)because nothing is being done, and they want to go and sail there models.i am away most of the week driving, but i do believe that most clubs in lincolnshire meet up and go for drinks.what it needs is someone to wright a letter to the journal asking whats happenning,i have wrote a letter but it was not printed, all i asked was "WHATS HAPPENNING TO THE POOL/MODEL BOAT CLUB"so it would be nice to see if someone else was to write a letter and hopefully get a reply. The person in the council who is involved with the pool is steve frisby.

If you need help or advice you can always call and see me and Lewis up at Alma Park...Baloo often calls in to chat and there's a brew available occasionally when Lewis gets the kettle on

We shall have to get our heads together to see if we can approach SKDC to sort the pool out, I have a few boats that need their bottoms getting wet.

Well ! thanks for all the replies, I'm over whelmed with the offers and yes the Journal needs a letter and the council a boot up the proverbial...............Bit late now........I'll read back and put some answers up with a bit of sensible thought attached
