Hi to you all
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:17:55 am »

Hi I am another newbie just starting out. I am about to start building my first ship from plans not strictly true I did start a project many years ago but never got past making the hull and just abandoned it   Before I start can any one in the Sheffield area suggest the best place to get balsa wood from.  Once the hull is constructed do I need to seal it and if so with what or will painting it act as a sealer
Thanks looking forward to this project and hopefully getting plenty of friendly help and advice from the forum

Welcome Mark

As you will already have realised, your questions will be answered with a range of insanity, madness, mayhem, truth, humour  and occasionally seriousness!

Yes you definately need to seal balsa before painting, either several coats of sanding sealer or a couple of coats of epoxy, there is plenty of info on the forum on this.

One thing you need to be aware of.... PHOTOS ARE COMPULSORY!

Sanding sealer is water proof, didn't realise that!
 Cheers Ian.  :-))
