hi everyone, now retired i really want to have a go at this hobby.

I like the look of the yachts,but would really like some advice, on what would be a good starter for me. i like the look of the Joysway, any advice welcome

 The Thunder Tiger Victoria is a good starting point. It is a convenient size, sails well and can be raced with a bit of  easy to obtain tuning kit added

       have a look at Sturmount at HOWES HOBBYS ....£99 pound complete with 2.4 radio ,
       nice little sail and with some little mods , will perform very well i am not a sail man but this gives me a lot fun....Larry...

well thanks to you all for your suggestions,i like the look of the surmount, and at that price its good value. I have had a comment that i may be a bit ambitious starting on sail,and that motor would be easier to handle. I can see the point wind has so many variables, so perhaps i should be rethinking my starter craft years ago i did have a little power boat that was great fun

Sailing a yacht for fun is no more complicated than operating a powered boat.

Don't listen to such inadequate people newarcher.  Go with your instincts!  If my kids can work a sailing boat, anybody can and motor boats pale very quickly once you've discovered forwards, backwards, left and right

You'll like the Surmount. Great value for the money. I got one for Crimbo. It came with a 4 channel 2.4GHz transmitter and a 6 channel Receiver. The instructions are a bit Chinese/Greek but a picture is worth a thousand words. The Tx  and Rx were already bound to each other. Only gripes are that the hatch is a poor fit and the retaining rubber bands are off center. I put soft sealing foam rubber on the hatch cover and stuck it down with a strip of duct tape right over the top and over the deck edge. She sails well on all headings in winds up to force three. Any more and shes over canvassed. Easy enough to make some smaller sails for heavy weather. You have to supply 12 AA batteries. I used ordinary Duracell non rechargeable for 2 months until I left the Tx switched on for 3 days. Yesterday I bought twelve AA 2500mAhr rechargeable cells and a constant current auto charger for £21 from Component Shop and he checked the Tx for center positive (as I had heard on tinterweb that this set was wrongly marked). Charges in 14 hours and automatically senses voltage.

I have used motor power since I first started motorised model boat building in 1963.
 
the model lifeboat I am now building and will be operated under sail, is my only venture ever into scale............and with all my experience I feel trepidation, and am unsure as to how she will sail..........but that is all part of the fun of model boat building, and we all learn as we go.
 
Have fun, enjoy your model and above all, build and sail for yourself, not for others that stand by and watch.
