Hi everyone
« on: March 01, 2013, 10:00:03 am »

First a thanks to Peter for a warm welcome.

Just a little about this newbie to introduce myself.
I did a bit of aeromodelling in my younger days, control line combat so nothing too complicated. My first and only RC plane was a semi scale with a MacGreggor single channel radio kit. Yes it was a kit where you had to source the parts and build it yourself. The only affordable way for a young engineering apprentice in the late 60´s
I am retired now and living in the Czech Republic. Land locked country with a navy but sadly no local model boat clubs.
Anyway with loads of spare time, a couple of spare rooms and a glimmer of an idea I decided to build a boat. I have been reading through the posts for a while initially to find advice and other peoples experiences on different aspects of boat modelling.  A bit late in the day in some respects. I found most of the help I needed in the posts here. So I thought it a good Idea to join and share my adventure into your world.
I´ll put the details of work so far in another post.

What sort of boat would you like to build first?

I started out with the idea of live steam powered but getting certificates here seems too much hassle so I´ve gone for electric with a dummy steam set up.
Drew it all out on cad software. Took a couple of months to get everything about right. I use Draftsight from dassault systems. It is a great open source cad software.

Got to this point in the build. It´s 1.5 mtr long and 400mm beam. No good going smaller with my eyesight.

Now spending hours researching, trying to decide motor type and size.
