Has anyone built the Italeri MTB that came out last year? On impulse I have bought one going cheap(ish) and want to covert it to radio, which SHOULD be straight forward but yer neva know...Would like to se what motors someone else has used - I've picked up some high revving ex-scalextric car models but not sure if they can deliver the power. Scale of the boat is 1/35th which is handy for 'crew'!!

Scalextric motors (mabuchi 's' cans) aren't that torquey, and need 15v to work well..... 15+ years of competitive slot racing/build/prep experience.....

Mini-Z motors on the other hand, work very nicely at 6 - 7 volts :)

Same can, different wind and slightly different brushgear.

Many, many thanks Rob. Any info' on where to get the mini-z motors you mention? The kit itself should build into quite a good model - I've found a colour scheme in a book called "S-boote" that shows one in zebra stripe dazzle effect - bit ambtious but I've got the time and in no rush....just as well probably!

Have a look at the ACTion website to see if they can supply you motors and ESC's/mixer all in one go. At least you know they are all compatable.

hello boaters,i have built and completed this kit and semi succesfully sailed her at beale park on the 6th may
here are some specs;-
2 x jp power 480 moters(very overkill as i found out)
2 x graupner 2mm shafts
2 x propshop props (1011/3) great looking,not exactly right.
m/tronics speed controller x1(no mixer or independent control)

one thing i have done and would strongly recomend is to enlarge the rudders as the kiit ones are tiny, i use a half size servo(not micro) operating all three servos
try to keep the weight down as my boat sits just below water line. i inserted brass tube into the original p brackets an cut the shafts to suit
i said semi succesfully, on 6 cell ni cads the performance is very fast ,to fast even with 3 large rudders turning is wide, the main problem was water getting in it nkilled two servos !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have photos, i am having trouble posting them will keep trying!!!!
give it a go it is an awsome kit,if i can help with any probs i will try

I have finished RC model from Italeri kit. It is excellent boat. Best thing you can do, replace hull from kit by hull from fiberglass. I purchased one, it was 150 grams heavy, so you saving weight of motors and Lipol battery. Model is fast and running EXCELLENT

Model Slipway I do not selling or making fiberglass hulls. I get it from your ex friend.You are telling about him, he is making copy of your hulls. He is not.But I do not thing so, he will sell hull to you. Quality is better as excellent

If the motors are a bit of overkill what would you recommend?

I have one awaiting start, the pictures in model boats looked a bit slow and i think weight will be an issue?

Motors are in size Mabuchi 280 OK with power. 25 mm propellers and LiPol Battery. If you will use plastic hull, you will have problem with weight

I used for this model also fiberglass hull, original from kit is to heavy. Fiberglass hull is half one third of original hull weight

Beauty Hansen, and lucky you to have ice out already, got another solid month to go here in Minnesota. I'd like to know about any other color schemes used for these boats, for some reason I just don't want to paint it green, anyone know? Where did you get all the sailors?

I also have been building this model, its been going slower (but I've got a month). I used 3 (cheap) 380's with 1:2 belt drive, and the kits propellers, did oversize the rudders too. My main issue maybe weight. (I also put mini airpump on to blow bubbles (exhaust) out the mufflers

)

I used 1/16" ss shafts with brass tube bearing set in styrene. The front bearings got too hot and melted the styrene (too much tension on the belts etc), so I put a flange on the tube and refixed them it should be okay, however I may take them off one more time and get some small ball bearings in the front (belt tension is always going to be there). I think it's a quality kit, hope Italeri does more of this. Cap

PS, not necessarily recommeded method for drive system, I'm an experimenter, gearing up electric motors not considered efficient, but I assumed with the small propellers the motors could take it ::)
