WATCH YOUR WIRES!
« on: June 01, 2013, 03:17:27 pm »

A little bit miffed right now.  But this should go with in the beginners section as its such a STUPID mistake to make

Bought some micro RC gear from hobby king in order to RC a little plastic kit I have.
Shopping list consisted of the following items

Orange RX R415 Micro
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18827

HK 3A Brushed ESC
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11885

Micro linear servo
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11737

And a sincle cell lipo
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=20386

nice little setup, decided I'd get started and bind the RX to my transmitter

connected ESC to RX then connected battery.... strange blue smoke escaped from the RX, disconnected the battery quick sharp but alas damage was done.

reason being was the lipo was wired opposite to the ESC so while the connector fitted perfectly it was in fact reversed and the orange RX didn't like it.

Cant believe I didn't check before hand and joy of joys the RX is now on backorder

I'm off to sit in the dunces corner

you would think they would put some kind of reverse polarity protection in there.... OK maybe not on a $10 ESC but maybe on a $100 one.
Ah well one lives and learns.... Guess I better order a new ESC just in case

Two hours ago I was removing a tapping screw from a customers nylon engine mount, by boiling it and hammering it out of the nylon when soft. Following a distraction, this dissolved into filling the shop with smoke and activating the smoke alarm, about 130Db, while melting the motor mount into an unrecognisable lump, that woke everyone up!!

Hmmmm. Last night I was putting the HXT 4mm connectors on an ESC. When I'd just about finished soldering the connector on, I realised I'd put the things on the wrong wires so had to de solder them and start all over again. Grrrrrr, easy done even when concentrating.

I had a UBEC feeding my Rx and my Action Noisy Thing. To keep the voltage at 5V
I had a problem setting up my brushless ESC so instead of going to get my
Tx to sort it out I decided to use my servo tester instead so with
the ESC disconnected from the Rx I had to fit the BEC red wire back into
the ESC plug, all went well, set the thing up unplugged the servo tester

Went for dinner, Came back to the workshop Tx in hand,
Plugged the ESC back into the RX switched on the Tx
connected the main battery and nothing worked
the Rx and Noisy thing won,t work. The led on the UBEC went dim.
You guessed it I did,nt remove the red wire from the ESC bec  :embarrassed:
and that idiot mistake has cost me an Rx and a Noisy Thing
Any one need a 15w amp <:(

I don't make mistakes, I just find hundreds of ways to do things wrong, Mick B.
