Thanks Alan, I like that idea of using the pump now and again, so as I have never used scoops before were are these best placed .

Regards Dave.

Ideally in the water flow through the propellors, but with the lifeboats anywhere deep inside the tunnel has a fast enough water flow.

Good luck tomorrow.

Robosizer works for me.
Just set it for large email and
as you pick a photo from your files
it automatically resizes it .
Simples :-))

Thanks Alan I get what you mean, ........no tunnels on the Arun though but as long as I get a good flow it should cool them enough. :-))

Hi all, had the Arun out today for trials, she was running on 14.8 volts 8ah lipo battery and did it go .........very fast but the good thing was it runs at approx  quarter throttle for about two hours and the low battery alarm had still not sounded. So as things stand I am very happy .......it looks impressive on the water, so now I can crack on getting the hull ready for spraying. :-))

Regards Dave.....PS sorry no photo's I was so keen to get to the lake I forgot the camera.

Thanks Alan, it was people like yourself who persuaded me to go brushless plus I had seen your Tamar and how well it went, so on to the hull now.  :-)) :-))

I shall be putting brushless outrunners in my 1/12th scale Tamar, and have been assured by a well know Lifeboat builder that I do not need cooling,so that is the way I intend to go?

Cracked it Boyo :-))
Speed and run time, a perfect combination.
Now you have to spend two years making it
look as good as it goes.

check your camera like mine does and many more digital cameras there is a email setting.
I have a small button press it and email comes up on lcd screen auto sizes the pics ,works for pics on here too don't have to fuss about with other programmes.
just a suggestion as I never knew I had this function until I played with camera and mines only a cheapish sony 8.1 mgp
about 8 years old so sure modern cameras have this too
cheers

Thanks Ned, it's now as you say a lot of work ahead to make it look as good as it goes but that's the part I enjoy, I just do a bit at the time as there's no rush. :-))

Mick F

Hi Mick, this is the first for me so I could not advise anyone but as far as cooling I would think at little more than tick over things are not going to get that warm.......I shall keep an eye on them and see how things go.

Paul Red181 is the chap to talk to about cooling brushless. He did a lot of research and development with the late HS93. His cooling continues post run because of latent heat transfer problems.

I'm running brushless on my 1/16 Tamar.  I was assured by the shop I bought the motors and ESCs from that there's no need to water cool. It's only had a couple of trial runs and so far so good.  They certainly infinitely cooler than the brushed set up on my Trent.

Hi Phil, I would of thought that if they were run at full throttle for long period's of time then yes it would be wise to water cool them, but as I found today it was far to fast on half throttle so the rest of the time it was going round on little more than tick over so I would think they will be OK .

I was at the lake today , an impressive turn of SPEED  %%  from such small motors (outrunners) I've been wary of LIPO's & Brushless . . . maybe it's time to join the new order  :embarrassed:  , one thing tho' does an E S C work harder at low throttle settings  as it's regulating the power , while at full throttle the powers just going straight thru ? I've never given it a thought . . . .

Hi Bill, I would have thought the E S C would have to work harder at high speed which would demand higher amps resulting in them getting hotter...........maybe someone will let us know for sure. :-))

Yes, as far as I know it's high speed running which generates heat in ESCs, as mentioned due to the amps.
