Beginning to look good matey! I would suggest you place something under the heat to stop the wood burning though! What are you using for a heat sink to stop previously soldered stansions from becoming too hot and coming loose again?Someone suggested using stainless steel clothes pegs, which I am waiting to arrive,as both holders and heat sinks.

Hi Mick, thanks mate , to stop other joints coming loose I am using a pair of mole grips to divert the heat away.....worked good so far. :-)

I think the next bit to tackle is the cutting out of the fly bridge and make good the deck.......think this calls for the dremel. OK I am thinking ahead ........I am planning on fabricating the top rails out of 3mm brass rod and the mast out of 6mm brass tube ........so question...... would all the brass on the top make it top heavy.

Hi all, I have now cut the flybridge out although there's a lot of work with the file to get the smooth finish I am looking for. So next question is.......what would the recommendations be in order to gain a smooth finish on the inside of the flybridge......filler or line it with thin styrene...your thoughts please.

Regards Dave.

I would definitely use a thin scraping of filler, Dave......that's what I did on the flying bridge of my clyde lifeboat, and gives you a reasonable surface..........I wouldn't even contemplate trying to get a decent fit with styrene sheet, myself.

once sanded down I used filler putty compound to get a very fine and smooth finish, using wet and dry paper, wet with a little fairy liquid on the warm water, using 320 and then 800 grade paper.

Hi Neil, I was worried about the boat becoming a bit top heavy with the rails and mast yet to be added with these being made from brass and then the weight of filler. But as you have shown in the photos the amount of filler is minimal. Thanks mate I will go with the way you've shown. :-)) :-))

Hi all, I decided to start on the mast, there's a long way to go and probably a few more burnt fingers but it's slowly coming together. :-))
