As I have decided to use m.f.a. 850s motors, what do you all think would be the best sized prop to use as I will be usinglead acid batteries.

Best regards Dave.

Dave, I believe 55mm props.

However if you look back through Lifeboat section for lifeboatpauls Arun you will see 75mm on brushless setup,
Russel did a build too and i believ he used 850's not sure if he completed the Arun though.

If you fancy something different perhaps the Sir William Arnold???

got plans and superstructure templates ( sides only) for her.....enjoyed that build.........something different......got lots of pictures of the real boat too.

I have a friend who is a retired staff coxswain for the RNLI  who sailed her back to Poole from Brixham after she had put it to port after her gold Medal rescue of the crew of the Bonita, 13/12/1981( just  6 days before the sad Penlee disaster ).....
The boat had taken such a battering during the rescue that the incumbent Guernsey Cox (from where the WA was stationed )thought he had dislodged one of the engines, and so she needed a checkup at Poole.

My friend said that even though the weather was still poor motoring her on one engine to Poole the day after the rescue, she handled absolutely superbly.......and to quote " was probably the finest lifeboat I have ever sailed".

well, on each of my lifeboats just for the hull, I used 1 x primer filler, 1 x grey primer, 1 x red oxide for anti fouling.and 1.5 blue for hull ( large 500ml tins ) plus one tin grey Rustoleum textured for an arun I built. I would say also 1.5 tins orange for "roof"

Thanks Neil I wasn't far out, I went to halfords and got the following.

2 x grey primer
1 x white primer
1 x red primer
2 x ford galaxy blue
2 x VW brilliant orange
1 x rover hurricane grey ( for the deck )
2 x clear lacquer

Now finding that with lifeboats you need deep pockets......But should be worth it in the end.

Wow that sure is a lot of paint - that is over 5Kg if you use it all...

Liquid gold or liquid ballast..... I am not sure - it could be both...?
