3D pdf's from CAD
« on: November 18, 2013, 08:44:46 pm »

well I mentioned that CAD could produce a 3D pdf, hopefully the forum will allow me to post it here. hmm had to turn off some layers to reduce the file below 210Kb (was 210) this from an ongoing project in CAD

what version of the pdf viewer do you have, I think that you need a certain version or newer to support that type of pdf. (seems to be version 7 or newer of Acrobat).

Derek, have you tried saving the file to your hard drive then opening it (that's all I can think of to do at the moment as I am at work with an inferior version of CAD (autocad lt 2012))
before anyone else spots it and sings out - yes I have spotted the kink in the second stringer near the bows, trying to figure how that crept in. (did anyone also spot you can turn the various layers on and off in the pdf?)

The bent stringer - is that just an opticle illusion ? - I'm just in awe as to how this works in reader - how you put a 3D rotating drawing into it - could do with knowing how it is done for the CAD drawings I do.  O0

I just use the inbuilt pdf printer configuration and tick the box that says 3d (this is in microstation) I'll have a look at autocad in a moment.

ah ok, so autocad doesnt do it (only saves a 3d file to dwf format) and in turbocad you need the latest pro version 20.
I believe if you have adobe acrobat (the full version) you can then do it in autocad (will check that on my 'work' desktop machine in a moment.
I have also spotted a note that some browsers dont support 3d pdf's, I use chrome and it works, as does internet explorer at work.

Grendel.........when save to the hard drive I still couldn't open the .pdf

Then I find it is attempting to open in .pdf Vista?.........by changing to Adobe Reader I can open the file
Can also use the tools to rotate the image in 3D etc...........Derek
