I will finish my trials this month and if they work ok, I will start with the 1/96th and 1/72nd. The larger scales will need a bit more thought as the detail is a lot more and therefore I may have to use another process to model them.

He declined to model for me as he said he has had enough of scanners.

I had the pleasure of seeing some of these at the Coalville boat show and I don't think the term exquisite would go amiss.  I was also very impressed with your HMS Dreadnought!  Which brought me to a question.  Would you have any idea what colours Dreadnoughts boats would have been painted during World War One.  I assume they would have been dark gray but would  that have been below the waterline as well?  I realise that this thread isn't the right place for this question but since you probably know more about Dreadnought than most I'd be grateful for you assistance.

Hi,

I sent an email to a 3D Printing shop to find out how to get some 1/72 doors made and I would need at least 30.

The reply was you design it we will make it.

Good start I thought.

A few weeks go by so I sent an email to find out what the problem was.

We don't do orders for the general public was the reply.

I can take a hint so I will try elsewhere.

A lot of businesses these days need to take a course in how to run a business and treat potential customers.

So if anyone knows where I can get 1/72 scale deck fittings.......?

Regards

Hi Mark,

I got one Question to you.
I ordered 3D-printed parts in Frosted Ultar Detail like yours at Shapeways.
The parts are perfect but there is one Problem with spray-painting.
The paint wont get dry.
What kind of paint do you use to paint your models?

Depends on the nationality. In Oz, APS do UK, RAN, USN &  some Russian Fittings. Brian McCrowe in Wagga also does Russian fittings. In the UK, Fleetscale, Scale Warship and Sirmar also do 1/72 scale fittings.

These guys are down in the Rocks and have made 1/72 winches for 1 of the Task Force 72 guys. I'm trying them at the moment to see if they can make the old .5" vickers machine guns for me.
They either need a drawing which they can convert the file type needed for 3D or that scan scan in somethimng pou have made.

Hi Marmoi..

What software did you use to design the parts and what format did you export them in? I have access to Solidworks 2011 and looking to try out a couple of designs for my Mersey Lifeboat.

Need to get the finger out as we've just been informed we are getting a new Shannon Class Lifeboat in Newcastle  %%

3D printed resin parts are supported by was webs during the build, this is then cleaned off when the print is finished, but I strongly advise cleaning the parts in warm soapy water and if your wife has an ultra sonic jewellery cleaner then use that as well.

For painting I have found that acrylic paints give the best finish.

Most 3D printing places will act as agencies and will print your 3D models, you will usually have to supply them in a 3D STL file format. If you have drawings or good photos and know the major dimensions, I can draw them up and produce the 3D models to most scales, but be warned the bigger they are the more they cost due to material and print run times.

Hi,

today I bought acrylic spray paint and the result is ok.
Thanks for your help.

I do design my modells (mostly vehicels) on 3D Solid-Works.
Here is a example of a sideloader.

These kits are designed for easy mounting and will also give vertical angled movement once painted and assembled.

OK, as this is the Traders Board, discussion of images has been moved to a separate topic:
