the 7th National Warship Weekend 12/13th July 2014
« on: February 24, 2014, 10:17:14 pm »

Hi Guys.
The Scottish Model Warship Association are pleased to announce the 7th National Warship weekend will be hosted once again by GRMBC and will take place at Richmond park Glasgow on the weekend of 12/13th of July 2014.
Exciting new displays both on and off the water are being planned and a number of traders will be in attendance.
Could I ask all clubs/individuals who wish to attend the event please let us know your requirements regarding tables. We intend to hold the off  water displays in gazebos as in previous years as this has proved most popular.
Please check the GRMBC website http://www.glasgowrichmondmbc.co.uk/ for directions to the event.
More details Re. start time, clubs and traders attending will be posted soon
We look forward to seeing you all there.
Kindest regards to you all.
 Brian.

Hi David,
We'll need about 6 tables reserved also.
I'll also confirm it through the SMWA e mail as well.
Got our own gazebo and table covers.

THREE WEEKS TODAY ....and tomorrow

Not long now.

The SMWA and GRMBC are very much looking forward to welcoming all visitors to this event at Glasgow Richmond Park.

Our friends from Belgium are coming over again and they brought some excellent models last year (just how they got the radio gear in those little 100th scale tugs was a marvel) so we are looking forward to seeing what they have been building over the past year.

We know there are some super (and this includes a super-carrier) models coming up from down south too.

There are quite a few new warships on the local scene as well and, like previous years, there will be a rush of first sailings over the next couple of weeks to get the bugs sorted out.

Last years success was hugely attributed to by having so many boats on the water so everyone is encouraged to sail and enjoy the harbour facilities ... and avoid the U-boats.  :o

See you there!

All the best

Thanks Sandy....if I not mistaken we see a model of our OZ HMAS Melbourne .....FFG 05 :-))

Is that USS Clark beside her?

Here is a video of Melbourne's GMLS13 launcher.....mind you it sounds a bit like a bag of bolts & nuts in her train motion..... >>:-( .... totally unacceptable noises in my days of maintaining them ....Derek

I stopped by this event today for a few hours and:

Thoroughly enjoyed myself.  :-))

I took a hundred pictures on a borrowed camera and ... none were recorded to the disk.  <:( Hopefully someone with a working camera will put some up tomorrow. Best model for me was the HMS Lord Nelson: a lovely job!

Going with my wallet all-but surgically removed from my person, naturally I spent a few quid on "essential items".  :embarrassed:

...But best of all was the atmosphere - great banter, a real camaraderie, and a willingness from the participants to answer a bazillion questions. All-in-all, a great show - and I didn't even get rained on.

Many thanks to all concerned!

Andy

(I will participate with a model in 2016. Or 2022. Possibly. At this rate.)

Glad you enjoyed yourself Andy, why not bring your fantastic carrier to next years show, we pride ourselves in displaying " works in progress " as it gives people an insight into how a model is built.
We will happily accommodate you in one of the gazebo`s :-))

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the National Warship Weekend, but a special mention to the following....
Rex and Mandy, Adam and his better half, Michael and his friend from Southern Ireland, the Belgian contingent, Steve Pickering {Chylds Hall Model shipyard} Robin and John {Scale shipyard} our great friend Dave Wooley, the boys from Balne moor, Nick and his son, the Edinburgh guys and of course, our friends from our local clubs,
Most of these guys travelled hundreds of miles to join us for the weekend and we are truly grateful. without your continued support, the show would not be as successful as it is.
2014 was in fact, our most successful show to date, the count was 176 warships on display, this must easily be the largest dedicated Model Warship Event in the country.
The prize winners were......
Best in show....USS Nimitz..Chris Bullock
Runner up......HMS Melville..Michael Loney
Bill Loney Memorial Trophy........HMT Three Kings....Gary Mills.
I have a few hundred photos to sort through and will post them up as soon as I can (Work is a pain sometimes)

The dates of the 2015 National Warship Weekend will be published when we have them finalised, so watch please this space
