JJC Electronics
« on: July 11, 2007, 09:01:09 pm »

Does any anyone know if Jim of JJC is still in business.
I have been after a couple of his sound generators but haven't had an answer from him.
I've tried Westbournes but they are out of stock and dont know if or when they might be getting any more, and they've taken them off their web site.
Have I really got to go for the Robbe ones ?

I'm after an Old Smokey but a bit reluctant to send off the money after what I've read on here.
He hasn't replied with to an email asking if they are in stock and postage costs.
I see they are down to be at Ellesmere Port in August, I think I will wait 'till then.
I did order one via Westbournes, but they couldn't get promised stock out of him

I prefer Action equipment, plenty of help and advice instantly, likewise very speedy delivery.

I have a JJC sound unit and cabt really falut it apart from a minor niggle....whne it goes inot its 'winding down' phase, if you try to then go forward or reverse, the unit launches into a loud noise that can only be deactivated by unplugging the servo.
I spoke to the guy at Birchwood about it and he reckoned he could disable it, seeing as its almost impossible to contact him, anyone any ideas on how to disable the 'winding down' phase in the unit???  ???

mr blazing penguin i have the turbo cat sound unit and mine does the same when the unit is winding down ,i cured the problem in a rather un orthodox way i have a bilge pump activated by a servo switch and when the sound unit goes into full throttle i switch on and off the pump and it reset's the unit ,great .and the good thing is it dont affect the unit in normal opperations ;D

Dear all, whilst on the subject, is JJC the only compant that has sound units? I cant find info any where else! Now, what jjc sound units would you recommend for my 2 boats, as I dont know what they should sound like in "real life"
1/ Huntsman
2/ Aerokits Fire boat

Do I need to but the rather expensive jjc speakers? or is there another source/

Finally,

Lokking at the jjc  website, the option of having working  Fire monitors coming on at a certain time, with a turning action sounds great, but does anyone know anything about this operation? Will it only do it once, or do you "pre set" the time gaps between operation of the fire monitors?

Thanks,

The Huntsman had  twin Perkins T6354 145hp diesels.
The fire boat had 2 Rover Meteorite petrol units each developing 375 bhp.

The 8 ohm speakers can be obtained from Maplins, an 87mm being about £3.50 and the 110mm being about £5.00

Sorry cant help with the fire monitors.

How about having the monitor swivel 90 degrees from facing backwards to sideways, and then when it is sideways have a micro switch to activate the water pump. All done with a servo.

Dont have a swticher...so thats that option out the window eh?

I think its either going to be a matter of shorting two pins out, or replacing the chip with one that doesnt have the winding down thing.

I've just visited the Westbourne Models website I found this information.

As off now we are no longer taking orders for JJC units.

Don't know if this situation is just temporary or permenant.

Hi Guys,

To ovoid too much speculation and to prevent this thread getting too negative, I'm going to lock it until someone has heard from JJC directly. Please PM me if you have verifiable updates.

Hi all.
I have herd a lot recently about JJC to this effect. I have been asked to repair several of his products.
I started to develop a sound unit a few years ago before I found out about JJc. I saw his units and was very impressed so I shelved my development; it was of very similar design.
I have been approached from several people asking me to UN-shelve my unit.

Question?
SHAL I DEVELOP A NEW SOUND SYSTEM?

Comments please.

Hi.
Send me an Email :- services@rcmodelworkshop.com with details of the fault.

Regarding the sound units. its a long proses to develop a product, once the hardware is sorted I have to get high quality sound recordings.
Therefor not a 5 minuet job.
