Stand alone wtc?
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:52:37 am »

I need to construct a stand alone wtc...ie, a wtc with motor and rudder attached to the cylinder, which will operate on it's own and can be removed from the boat in one piece without any electrical or mechanical connections.

The cylinder will contain a single motor, rx, rudder servo and esc, and a battery pack, and will be fitted to the hull bottom via two Terry clips, so it just unclips as one complete unit.  Does that make any sense?

Take a look at the attached image and see what you think, guys...thanks.

Good idea rich, I try and build a unit that will fit into other boats although mine still have battery connection's and rudder planes connection  also bec  on radio gear, this goes into the seaview and the o class, the smaller unit is an rcabs  in the bronco 21, main battery is in the water, pete

It does make life easier Pete, plus it saves the old pennies as well. This wtc is destined for my r/c swan, it won't be going into a sub, but I just needed it to be easily removable in one unit...just clip it in position, then just unclip it for battery charging, maintenence, etc. I don't want to cut into  the body of the swan, that's the idea behind doing it this way.

We used the same idea for our duck racing , was it tamiya that used the submarine motor that clipped to the bottom of the hull, I used one on the keel of my brig, people couldnt believe how well it sailed into the wind, thing is rich were ever you attach the clips the unit will fit and it is reuseable and you dont have to drill and cut, pete

I don't think they would be man enough to push the swan along in a head wind, Frank...anyway, 'tis done now.

Bronco 23
That's a beautiful Bronco 23 you got going there Petesubman. See that you utilized the kit's hull separation instead of cutting the top of the hull. Can you post more photos or even better post a build thread. Would really want to see how you put the hull together.

Depending upon the weight of the complete unit, terry clips may need to be 'LOCKED' or they may not hold the weight and the wtc will sail off on its own like a torpedo,
and an old LYNX can lid - the dome type will help reduce the drag on the front end.

A couple of sturdy rubber bands or reusable zip ties across the clips should do the job nicely

As for the dome, an old funnel with cut to size with the end cut off and sealed would work as well :)

Got plenty of aerosol dome lids, I tend to keep them in the ''just in case'' box. Got stacks of cable ties too...I wasn't a council worker for nothing!

There has  been some interest in the bronco 23 , the wtc is 65mm x 310mm which fits neatly into the stern  lower hull space, the ballast system is rcabs, I used the robbe split  hull , reinforced aluminium flat bar top and bottom which fits neatly into the recesses in the hull, this also provides support for the main battery, will post more pics, regards pete.

To avoid hijacking this thread could you please post the info about the 23 in a dedicated thread. Really would like to learn more about how you built the hull pieces and mounts.
