Hi all just a quick question, re the aircraft guns at 1/350 would the damage they do to the deck of the Warspite be noticeable, if so how much damage would they do (I assume apart from removing a bit of paint they wouldn't do any damage to the superstructure) if the damage did show, on a run along the deck of the ship how far apart would the hits be.

In 1/350 scale the bullet strikes would be the size of pin-pricks so you perhaps would even see the paint being scratched in this scale. On the real aircraft the guns would be no further than 10ft apart maximum so in scale form in would tiny and once again probably not noticeable unless it was a really concentrated fire in to one precise place on the deck or superstructure. I think you would struggle to achieve a scale effect with out it being over size. I personally would stick to the bombs blasts, they look stunning by the way, I think you are doing a brilliant job. :-))

You have the complication of mixed ammunition load as well because, while rifle diameter rounds would not show in this scale, cannon rounds would have a mix of tracer solid and HE so not every hit would splinter deck timber.

You are right not to worry about anything less than the explosions which you are already making.

Hi all playing with the 1/350 planes this one I was going to have crash into the sea behind Warspite but I had a thought didn't some of the German pilots do suicide runs and deliberately crash their crippled planes into ships. If I did this I was thinking they would aim for most damage so I would imagine they would try for the bridge or one of the big guns and hope to hit some ammo.If I did this would something like that have been enough to sink a ship like the Warspite. Obviously I dont want her sunk.

also here is some work I've done some work on Warspite

I think the colour is alright, maybe some more waves on the open sea, but that depends on your feelings towards contrast between bow waves and how choppy you want your meditteranean!

Was that the ghost of a previous resident or your other half in the top photo! I thought that digital imagery did away with double exposures.

Your dio is coming together fast now!!!

It's a ghost. Ooooooo. No it's just my ancient canon D10 I don't think they had things like image stabilizing in the stone age.

while gabbing on the phone!!!! lol

Warspite did have a remote controlled bomb hit her from a griffen according to Airfix's blurb, and as it is a while since I read the anatomy of a ship book I don't remember what other hits were done, she did spend twice in the states being refitted and there is a picture of her limping into malta.

Hi KP,

The background certainly helps in that it gives another perspective to draw the eye (that's the only way I can put it).

When you settle on the final background, perhaps other objects, shown at a distance, will give the whole diorama even more depth.

Artists / photographers would probably be more able to explain this %%

Ray.

The sharp bend in the background show clearly in the first and second photos. Could you install it with a curve rather than a bend?

The edge of the base surround does show, but you have got the essence of the idea and suggest modifying the backdrop so the bottom edge is the same shades of blue as the base sea to ease the transition from base to backdrop.

A curve will definitly improve your initial work.

Crikey, those Battleships were huge constructions! You have mastered that etch, those cranes are really crisp as is the director top (sic).

Well she's nearly done now just some rails and the rigging (no idea where that goes) I can see some of it in the box atr but obviously that does not show where its anchored or anything.
got a bit of work to do on the base and the background, but definitly on the finishing stretch.

How long is that kit? She looks a good size given she reaches almost across the table!

692ish millimeters long. That is pretty impressive and makes me realise how big that diorama is!
