Bow thrusters
« on: October 16, 2014, 01:39:50 am »

Hi all

Sorry if this seems like an obvious answer but I am about to begin building a 1/400 model of the QM2 and the bow thruster doors open to reveal a solid partition with mouldings on either side representing the bow thruster blades. I am going to detail this area and want to know, is there an opening right the way across from port to starboard inside the thrusters? Does it form a tunnel between the 2 sides? I have never seen any bow thruster images so am not sure, but I'm thinking yes?

Thanks, Ryan

Ryan......I think there is every chance that the OM2's bow thruster tubes are straight......but double check here.... Derek

Thanks. I did think there might be a straight tunnel between the 2 sides of the liner but wasn't 100% certain.

All 3 thrusters are through tubes . Note on QM2 the doors only open when they are using the thruster . This was done to make the hull more hydrodynamic and reduce the drag caused by an open thruster so she could make the 29kt

During her sea trials one of the doors closed by itself and was blown clean off by the force of the thruster inside. Shows just how powerful they really are.
